The end of the season is upon us ... The Grand Prix Final is this weekend .. The World Cup the following weekend ... Is anyone interested in these meets at all ??? Or is everyone board with the season and moving on to Cross Country (a la Team Guru) or (shudder) professional football !!

A few interesting stories in both events ...

With the exception of the eye that I try to keep on the Euro circut (mainly Krummenacker) I've been in full blown cross country mode for a couple of weeks now. I guess that's what happens when your an American distance running fan and there are no American distance runners who are competitive in Europe.

That's what I thought but I wasn't sure if someone hadn't run in at least one race over 1500 meters. That's even more depressing Crying or Very sad

Well Krummenaker has run the 1500 once (and broke 3:32) and I thought Lassiter had run in one or two ...

But the point is still well made ... What have our distance runners been doing thsi summer ???

Rehabing injuries (Goucher), running road races (Broe), and getting ready for the college cross country season (Torres).

I believe Broe has been injured along with most of the Warhurst crew... Which, by the way, I learned just recently that Warhurst has been a high mileage believer for quite awhile now.

Ok ... Ya'll are probably gonna get mad at me for this but .... Why are our guys running slower, yet seem to have more injuries, than everyone else ??? My experiences have alwalys been that speed results in injuries moreso than runing slowly ...

Conway your answer to that question is as good as mine. And at the moment whether the athletes are running in a speed based or mileage based (to use generic terms) system if their Americans and they run distance right now they seem to be either injured or slow. I, like many in the American distance community, right now seem to be at a loss for explainations. Confused

My only guess (and that's all it is) is that Americans as a whole might be running to much on pavement which is known to increase the risk of injuries. But other than that (and I'm sure there are a million other reasons) I've got nothing at the moment. Sad

Well I'd sure like to return to the days of Maree, Padilla, and Marsh (the last golden American period in my opinion) ... I hate seeing others run by us with disdain on the track !!!!

I have my puny little opinions on this, but I am saving it, for all places, the Toe Running thread. I had a great post going there, but I screwed it all up by checking something out in the Guest Articles. I erased everything without saving it. Embarassed Sad I hope I can piece it all back together.

On a different note, I hope everyone read the articles in the IAAF site after the GP Final. I really wonder how many changes can be made. The money is just too good the way it is. I think the money angle even supplants the Olympics in importance for many.

You're right about the money angle ... Money is the king in the sport these days ... Which is why I think you CAN effect change - by altering the path to the money ...
