Just a thought about maybe having a second half of the season contest too? This way some new people could join (like me), and then the rest of you could alter your lineups for individuals who are doing so well on your roster.
I assume the competition would be tight since everyone would now have some idea on which athletes and events are doing well, and which athletes/events are not doing well. Plus, with only four races left, that wouldn't leave much room for a bad meet.
Just a thought! |

Hmmm ... Now that is a thought ... Especially for those who have failed so miserably in the first half !!! ... I'll be curious as to what Dan thinks when he gets back ... |

Unfortunately, that's just a different side of the same coin that's already been discussed... Allowing people to sign up mid-stream would require the same changes to the program and database's structure to keep track of when people had athletes on their roster as far as scoring points is concerned. Otherwise, if I had to go back and correct scoring for earlier meets, the new players would be scored as if they had been in the contest at that point, which would give them an unfair hindsight advantage... I might be able to get around that by checking on user signup dates, but that will still require going through all the database queries to make sure things work right. Also, I would need to come up with some way to allow new people to sign up and select rosters without current players being able to change their selections and making a mess of everything...
So, unless we go to a full-fledged changeable roster setup, it doesn't sound too enticing (to me) to tackle that side of things. Is it even worth it to new players to sign up only to see their names way down at the bottom of the leader board? Of course, knowing what athletes are out for the season and which are doing well might be enough to move up to mid-pack after 2 or 3 meets...
An alternative thought for future scoring is to use the athletes' scoring to determine the order of players each meet but not for compiled scores. Instead, players could get points (decending order) for how they placed that week, i.e. 20-19-18-... Maybe start with the number of players and count down from there. That would ensure everyone scores at least one point every week, and there could be bonus points for things like how many athletes in your roster score (might deter people from loading up on stars and make some tougher picks for depth).

Dan,
I think that the way you habe it set up now is GREAT It lets us know who the REAL T&F fans are. For instance after the first week I was ranked #27, I have since moved to #4, sure I have made some picks who havent even competed let alone score but thats the breaks. This way it makes people do some "homework" on our sport and follow it faithfully! If someone missed the sign up I guess that they are a casual fan or really missed the cut off due to something beyond their control. Either way rooster swapping or adding new players this far along in the game would hurt us all...Keep it as is |

Hey Bruce, thanks for the feedback. We now have the #4 and 5 scorers participating in the forum, so this could get interesting if trash talk heats up...
