Yeah with our Nationals a little over a month away, I'm not expecitng anything major from our distance group at this time .. And it looks like nothing of note from non Americans until the circuit in late June or so .. Too bad .. Only prolongs th eeducation of the genral public on distance events here .. As usual they will be reaidng about sprints and hurdles .. And distance people wonder why they get so little exposure on television .. Sad

Ward's Worthless Opinion on lack of television exposure for the distance runners, the tv execs don't think the viewing public has the attention span to watch anything over a mile. So we get the last two laps of anything over the mile and then only if it is a close race. The only exception is coverage of major marathons...Boston, New York, Olympics.

Stanford meet this weekend was a good one for the distance crowd. Drossin breaks US record in the 10K, Meb runs 2nd fastest US 10K, Liz Jackson runs this years world best for steeplechase, Nicole Teeter runs 1:59 for another world best this year, Torres and Ritz take 2nd and 3rd in the 5K and Gabe returns to the track taking 3rd in a 1500 where the top 5 all ran 3:41.

I'm up to 4 minutes walking and 6 running. The comeback continues.

This comiing weekends action .. Am going ot MOdsto to see the Modesto RElays .. Have been going since the early 70's .. Always a quality meet with good to great competition depending on the $$$ available to pay .. Smile

.. Bringing it up because I was looking at their loal papaer online earlier and Allen Johnson says he is going to attempt to break the WR this weekend !! Astounding given how early it is in the season AND that one wouldn't expect Allen to make a statement like that ..

They traditionally have very good sprint and hurdle fields .. So I am sure he will have adequate competition although I have as yet not been able to find out who will be in any of the fields .. HSI has made several appearances there as the track is fast ...

The outdoor season seems to final be under way in earnest .. Most outstanding this weekend were the shot putters in the Oregon Classic .. Yes I said shot putters ... 70 ft is the mark of significance and this weekend guys were over 71, 72 and 73 ft !!!!! THat is awesome and they deserve their due !!!

Surpised at Coby Miller coming bck to ewual his PR at 9.98 - given he is coming back from a broken leg .. AND Fredericks runs 9.85w in Nairobi (some altitude ot go with the wind) .. Buta stunning performance none the less ..

... and for the first time in recent memory, Brian Lewis does not run well at the adidas meet...

I'm not entirely sure about this, but the image I have in my mind of the shot area at that facility is that it slopes downhill...

I don't care if your using two hands and throwing it off a cliff, 73 feet for the shot is a huge throw.

Coby Miller's run was nice and the whole field was right there within spitting distance of him. Although I personally don't recommend spitting when you're running that fast. It tends to get messy... Surprised

Krummenaker has tons of potential .. I thought at one point he was going to lead us back ot contention in the 800 .. But so far notthe results I thought he would have .. Hopefully this is a sign of better things to come ..

I've always thought he had a problem with fitting into one distance. It seems from what I've seen of him that his best distance might be around 1200. He has made finals in the 1500 at the world championships and he might be the best American 800 runner out there right now, but he always seems to accel at the weird races run in between these distances. Of coarse that could be because no one else ever runs them.

Definitely a tweener. Did he do a lot of indoor running (odd distances) in high school and college or something? He went to Georgia Tech, right? I'm sure they run a full indoor season there.

I'm sure that he did his share of indoor track at GT but he's from southern New Mexico, where it's 70 degrees in January no such thing as indoor down there. It just seems like he hasn't been able to decide which event he's best at.

Is anyone else out there excited about the Prefontaine Classic .. Great sprinting, great distances, great field events ... Quite possibly the best meet in the country ... And sort of the unofficial jump start to the outdoor season ...

While I am excited about the men's 100, I'm equally excited about the women's pole vault as Dragila now has some competition it seems .. And the men's mile as ElG has stated he wants to run 3:47 !!!!
