I can adjust the WR-level comparison for the event to adjust scoring. We would need to decide on what a fair adjustment is, then I would need to go back and re-score the results for each meet.

What is the normal percent cutoff to receive performance points? |

-1 * (1 - %WR_points)*100*5

Ok. That seems easy ( :?: ).
Well, obviously with multiple throwers on my team I'm biased to the athletes accumulating points based on their performance like all of the other fantasy selections.
However, since it might be overly complex changing scoring now (and no one else seems too concerned), whatever happens...happens.
Thanks again Dan, I look forward to fantasy track every year. |

I'm open to other opinions. It's just a matter of getting people to speak up...
The calculations don't need to be changed, just the comparison level. For example, WRs are not used for most of the women's events, as the comparison levels are pretty much unobtainable from the FloJo/Eastern Bloc eras. For the first year of the Fantasy contest, we came up with a list of what seemed like comparable performances, then equated those to Purdy points for Fantasy scoring comparisons. That's where the % of WR comes in.
Is it that Zelensky put the Javelin record out of reach or that the current crop of throwers is very marginal historically? I don't follow the event close enough to know...

Wow. You learn something new everyday:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_%C5%BDelezn%C3%BD
A highlight:
Železný holds both the world record, at 98.48 m set in 1996, and the Olympic record, at 90.17 m set in the 2000 Summer Olympics. As of August 1, 2005, Železný has made 52 throws over 90 meters, more than all other javelin throwers combined (31). [1] He is also the only athlete to throw more than 94 m.
Again. Wow. |
