The Sprints will be hot as always. I'll push the boat out and give some predictions:

Men
100:
1. Powell - 9.83

Though it's not Sprint-related, the Men's 4x800R should be exciting to watch. I doubt GBR's WR of 7:03.89 will be broken, but I expect a sub-7:10 nevertheless. Coe's 1:44.01 anchor is amazing considering there was no pacing and that he would've been about 20-25m clear of 2nd place [a solo 1:44 for 2laps is awesome]

After watching Felix win in Birmingham it seems she has found her form at last so I doubt European champ Gaveart can beat her even in her own backyard.

As for the others I think I would agree with the orders.

Interesting to see how wariner responds to merritt. Will he step up a gear and show Merritt who's boss. A sub 44 is definitely on the cards.

I haven't seen the 110 h start list. That event really excites me know especially with that young cuban Robles. He seems to be getting better and better which also applies to veteran Allen Johnson who is starting to find his form again.

However the mens 200 will be the race of the evening! Thumbs Up

For some reason Allyson is not down to compete at this meeting. I hope we'll see her soon though, as I wanna see a sub-22 before the season ends! We haven't seen a sub-22.00 for eons since Jones' 21.84 Sydney 00 OG win - I remember thinkin Kelly White shoulda done it with her 2003 Paris WC 22.05 'win' in which she eased-down in the final stages [21.98~ at max.] but it woulda only been eliminated from the all-time lists anyway

I cannot see how the Men's 110HH startlist is not up when all others are [the 3K Steeple is there]. Perhaps they are not contesting this event at this meeting [which would be strange as there is always either a 110HH or 400H race at the Golden League or Grand Prix meets]. It may be put up tomorrow

that's what I was thinking. You cannot have a meet of that stature without a hurdles race.

Well, my suspicions have been confirmed and there are NO Men's Sprint Hurdle races tonight which is poor if you ask me. A meet wouldn't be a meet without the big dawgs going at over the barriers!

There is no way you can justify a meet by taking out certain events. People come out to see all the races, whether they are golden league events or not.

Despite the total absence of Men's Sprint Hurdles, this meeting has been pretty darn good for Sprinting action

Men 100

There was some contreversy other the use of a quick-starting method [I'm sure someone will explain what exactly went on] which led to some awful reaction times from some of the athletes ie; Powell - 0.229. Powell was down on Scott by around 0.10 until 55-60m where he powered through. Brunson was hot on Powell's tail in 2nd place

Gay is the truth!!! He has had a triple-sequence of 19.70, 19.84 & 19.79 for his last 3 dueces ! That is awesome, possibly the greatest 200m sequence EVER. Carter has also done the same triple-sequence of sub-20s with 19.63, 19.98 & 19.97 - awesome from both guys

Men 400

Wariner said that his legs were a bit tight due to the chilly conditions. 44.29 on a chilly night just shows his class. Kikaya followed up on the NR that he set last week in Zurich behind Wariner & Merritt. Merritt also continues to impress. Whilst Wariner is out on his own, Merritt & Kikaya seem to the '' best of the rest '' at the moment and have put some distance between themselves and the others. Brandon Simpson did well though, to set a New NR for himself in such conditions. I'm sure Merritt, Kikaya & Simpson could all be consistent sub-44.50 by the time of the next year's Osaka Worlds if they keep up their current form

I didn't have the benefit of viewing the races (Not on skysports this year?)
so looking at the results I thought the athletes must be running on tired legs after checking wariners and powells pedestrian 44.29 and 9.99 respectively but obviously this was not the case as Gay has once again run a dynamite time.

Can't wait to see this 200 trio race again next year providing they remain healthy and don't test positive ( I had to say that Wink

)

Sky Sports do not broadcast the Golden League any more. Something that I was very peeved at. If you have the channel, Sentanta Sports broadcasts these meetings each week [I think you'd have to subscribe to the channel]

Someone named ' Thor ' always uploads the footage of each GL meet. To view the videos you have to right click + save to download the vids

Thanks for the info X-king, I,ll check it out.

I remember in the eighties we were bombarded by free athletics on the BBC including the grand-prix meets and itv and channel 4 from time to time. The latter also showed the major us indoor meets for a few seasons such as millrose, dallas, LA times and East rutherford featuring the likes of lewis, foster and ashford. I remember watching lewis running a new world best of 6.02 in dallas and beating football prospect Herschel walker, calvin smith and previous record holder stanley Floyd.

These are moments you never forget but unfortunately due to commercialisation only the very keen fan can watch but has to pay to watch it leaving out the general public.

With the exception of some domestic meets and a few european meets on eurosport the choice is very restricted. It is a real shame. :t-:

Gay's season is the absolute best ever in the 200 on the circuit ... Bar none - and that includes MJ ... And only on the "super fast" is there a better sequence !!!!

I hope he can carry his fitness level through to next year and does't burn himself out.
A bit early to hang the gold medal around his neck as we still have to see how he performs through the rounds in the world champs as does powell.

Gay underperformed at last years worlds so we will have to see.

I would be bold enough to say that gay is capable of a deuce if powell has a bad race or is not 100% fit .

It will be interesting to see if powell takes the 200 seriously next year as he has already run a 19.90 and there is definitely more to come.
