I saw some talk about that and speculation whether anyone can break 7:00 by nation. I'd have to think Kenya is the only one with a shot.

Its a tough thing to do maybe maybe not If I get some time I am going to try to see if they took all of their best guys what would happen based on times this year - should be fun I wonder how many if any top athletes will actually go for it. _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

Those sorts of relays are fun to thing about, but rarely do they end up being hotly contested, at least in terms of times they're capable of as a group.

Of course Dan - I kind of wish there was a European Relay Carnival at some point or that there were more relays in the Olympics/Wrld Champs
Especially having it in a Golden League meet makes it great to
the 4 x 800 was always a good race in HS - I even ran one 4 x mile but it was only a race at one meet a year. _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

Nope. We've only got the 4x100 and 4x400. And kids can only run 2 events 800 or longer.

Kenya and the USA have an extra guy on the list and it looks like there is a mixed team as well so maybe one of them slide over.

Should be an interestin race. The WR should be at 7:00.4 anyway - GBR Team's 1st Leg Peter Elliott split 1:49.14 which is pretty poor [he got beat by another runner by about 1.3] as he was capable of around 1:44.0-1:44.5 in 1982
I think Kenya has the depth to break that record, as a single nation, just like Dan says. Should be interesting to see what kinda split-times are put down. Would it be harder to run a 800m relay leg in regards to no pacemaking and if your clear of opposing teams running solo comes into mind
Distance Buffs, what would a respectable relay leg be for someone who could run in the region of 1:43.0-1:44.0. 1:44.5-1:45.0? _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

I think +2 sec is reasonable. Maybe closer to +1 on the first leg, since there should be more direct competition at that point.

A New WR of 7:02.44 for Kenya & a massive new AR for US right behind them in 7:02.82 [Krummenacker acnhored]
I never thought I'd see a WR in the 4x800R for at a least another decade. I can't understand why I am so suprised, I mean Kenya has great depth so I should've expected the WR to at least be ''scared'' [all I expected with a sub-7:10 - a time around 7:06/7:07]
Splits aren't available yet, but I'd love to see them when they are _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

Full Result:
1. Kenya - 7:02.43 WR [officialised at 7:02.43]
2. USA - 7:02.82 AR [2nd on All-Time List] [Best ever mark for 2nd place]
3. Benelux - 7:06.12 [6th on All-Time List] [Best ever mark for 3rd place]
4. Qatar - 7:06.66 [8th on All-Time] [Best ever mark for 4th place]
5. Spain - 7:16.99
6. All Stars - 7:19.68
The splits will more than likely be featured in the IAAF Report of this meeting which will probably appear sometime over the weekend _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

I'm only mildly surprised by Kenya, but I wouldn't have thought the US squad would pull off such a good time, not based on how they've been running individually.

I know they actually had the lead for a bit and Bungei beat Krumm (what happened to him this year) in the last lap but not handily to his credit Krummenaker hung in there and both dipped upner the previous WR _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |
