why, 800m to 2 miles of course! Though I am particularily curious about 800m. However, any info on any distance would be lovely.
I set up this topic just so that we may establish some myths for what they exactly are, and maybe learn something. Often, I believe we make far too many assumptions of what makes one slower _________________ Je suis rapide! |

800 m:
--1) running 100 miles a week would make you slow,
--2) not doing any pure sprint work out would make you slow,
--3) approaching 800 m from too purely dash perspective will make you slow (no reasonable mileage),
--4) not knowing what kind of approach benefits your physiology the most (not necessarily your physique -- both physiology and physique correlate pretty well, but not always): dash -- "it is an extended controlled sprint," pure 800 m -- "be even specific," and long distance -- "the fastest long distance."
The American (US and the Islands most especially) genetic stock (North, East or West, Europeans, and West Africans as well as American Indians, e.g., Mexicans, dominate it) makes most US coaches and track and field commentators usually automatically say that 800 m is more of a sprint; however, it is not always true for every athlete.
Indeed, 800 m is just a tiny bit more of a sprint than a long distance event. The perfect physiological split and thus the perfect middle distance event would be a 1 K or 1.1 K race (a little less than 3/4 of a mile or about 2 laps and—a--half). _________________ http://vincovitanj.tripod.com/Do_not_be_a_victim1/index.htmlhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u43o595CARQ

Anybody with ideas on what foods and drinks would make one slower? (and give a good reason!)
A teammate and I drank heavily caffeinated drinks the night before a meet. Him a mountain dew, me a double "sugar daddy" from a coffee house. We both did really well in our race (a 400m). We began to wonder, do foods and drinks make any difference in performance? _________________ Je suis rapide! |

How much does the food the day before or of a meet make a difference? For me, a swiss cake roll always hits the spot, even if its the day of a race.
I also have a habit of eating ice cream the night before... _________________ Je suis rapide! |
