My parents gave me a set of "running" weights for Christmas this past year. You know, the type that strap around your wrist upto 2.5 lbs each and other that go around the ankle and go up to 10 lbs each. Of course the anke weights are adjustable. You strap yourself down with these and go-go-go from what I understand.
The wrist weights have not been too bad, they just create an awkward momentum. As for the ankle weights, I tried those a few times and would come back really sore.
My question is how beneficial are these weights? Do any of you use them? If so, then for what type of workout? Do any of you know if I should be using them at all? |

Hand weights are good for building proper form, as they make you more aware of the movements you might otherwise ignore and build some strength in the arm swing (can be good or bad, depending on how well you practice it). There's also some benefit in training heavier than you will race...
Ankle weights are about the worst idea out there, in my opinion, unless you consider knee problems to be a good thing. Not to mention a turnover that would make an elephant proud.
