That really sucks.
Have you been given instructions for rehabbing it?
Quote: | just leave me wondering why? why did this have to happen. |
Two important lessons come to mind:
1) Injuries happen most frequently during over-training, where the body is too fatigued to snap back from something like an ankle roll.
2) Always have a plan for what you want to get out of each workout, so that: a) you make sure to accomplish that much, and b) you don't get carried away in the excitement and start racing (which generally shouldn't be done in practice) over rough terrain...
Doesn't particularly help you in this situation, but those lessons can be carried forward to avoid similar situations in the future.
Every day is a learning experience...

That is terrible Tim. I really hate it for you. Having been through several injuries myself I know how frustrated and angry you feel. But believe it or not, you will heal and return to running and racing. Just be patient, which is the last thing you want to hear and the hardest thing to do. Hang in there...you WILL be back!!! _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Injuries do suck but as Dan and Micah said learn from them - learn why they happen - sometimes its just a fluky thing. Other times it is from a failure to notice something sooner - know why you got hurt know how to get back stronger and you will _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

Hello everyone,
Yes injuries do suck..I went to the meet yesterday. it was our first home meet on our new track and i think it went pretty well. It was against Ponderosa High school, and they have the best track team in our high school district. Coach says were gonna beat em this year. Anyway, the girls were really close to winning, only a few points behind, thanks to Alex Kosinski who got a 4:48 in the 1600 and 10:01 in the 2 mile. Shes really gonna have a great season, and shes just a sophomore. Our JV and Varstiy guys won, Jv by just a hair. Varsity slaughtered, especially in distance events-- as usual.
so about me..My ankle is not hurting as much anymore. and i think i will be off the cruthches in a week or so... still a while, my underarms are killing me. After crutches ill be limping around with my huge brace ive been wearing. Even when that thing is off, i still wont be ready to run. Injuries suck. _________________ Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, "Are you going to be a wimp, or are you going to be strong today?"

Keep that positive attitude Tim!! You will make it back.
The times for that Kosinski girl are very impressive. Especially since she is just a soph. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Go easy on yourself, injuries, rehab, and lost conditioning are a fact of life in athletics. The important thing is that you learn what not to do next time around so you can stay a step ahead of the game.

yes i am certainly going to be more careful, and try not do anything dumb like that. i certainly learned the hard way, but im not going to hate myself for it. Getting angry isnt going to make me heal any faster, and like Dan said, these things are a fact of life in athletics. _________________ Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. Remember me? The kid who screwed up his ankle? Well i figured i would let you all know that I'm back in business. No more limping, crutches, 50 different pain meds, etc. I just started doing the summer training program, getting ready for Cross Country season! I hope all goes well. As for my injuries, i feel pretty much no pain, except when i sprint. Now i just have to get in shape... Im wayyy slower than everyone else now, but I can keep a good 7:30 pace for a pretty long time, but anything too fast is still somewhat painful... Overall im 95% healed. So ill probably start posting here again with updates or asking questions. _________________ Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. First of all, congratulations on a nice run as you recover.
Now to the light headedness and headache. Were you hydrated enough? What was the temp? Sounds like it could be a combination of not enough fluids and too much heat. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Definitely hydrate well after a long run, especially when it's longer than you're accustomed to.
