Hadori was cool ... I liked "Ollie" from Sydney (the Kuckaburra) but I thought they went overboard with the trio of mascots ... I went back and looked at all of them when I was looking for them, and there really were a lot of losers !!! A lot of cutsie stuff ... And most had little meaning to the Games or the venues ...

It is rather surprising and disheartening how few good mascots there's been in the past 32 years for something as large as the Olympics. Stuff like that always makes you wonder how people got those jobs in the first place.

Ward's Worthless Opinion based on what I saw in Atlanta. Too many people, who have nothing to do with sports, get involved in the planning stages of the Olympics and they try to make it into something more than a sporting event. Granted, it is the largest sporting event in the world but it doesn't, and shouldn't, have to be a vehicle for everyone's personal agenda.

The strength of the Sydney Olympics is that they seemed to keep it simple and avoided all the other distractions. And it also seems that the Winter Olympics is able to avoid the distractions better than the summer games. Maybe the weather is a factor there.

I agree ... Absolutely ... People who really do not care about sports care about the Games ... Its big money ... Its an EVENT ... An opportunity to become "The Official" whatever ... To have your name put in front of millions and millions of people ... Marketing at the highest level ...

The actual sports take second stage up until the Games are actually taking place ... Prior to its all about image ... And even after the Games start there is a blurring of the line ... Its no different than an NBA game for an NFL game - you find yourself sitting besides people who have NO CLUE what is going on on the track .... They are there because it is the Olympics and the place to be ....

You are absolutely right! We have had a couple of Super Bowls in Atlanta and the thing that suprised me there is how hard it is for the average fan to purchase a ticket. The vast majority of tickets are already bought up by big corporations. So a lot, if not the majority, of the people in the stands aren't true football fans but people who just want to be at the Super Bowl.

Sort of like celebrities at any given Lakers or Knicks game.

The revolving mascots are very impressive! I think athletics is far more complicated than the average viewer is willing to appreciate. I feel this is one of the reasons Once A Runner is such a cult classic amongst runners themselves.
