You guess right I go on vacation to Florida for 3 weeks . I wonder now what is better:
- staying in the pool all day with a Bud in my hand
- or do some running
Do you have any advise how to cope with the hot and humid climate?
Peter

When I was in Orlando, I found running in the heat and humidity pretty difficult. Basically just sporadic, short runs in heavily congested foot traffic area. Fun.
When I was in Hawaii (the big island), we stayed in a hotel right on the Ironman course. I went running and biking along there a few times, and it was downright awful. Dullest route I've ever run, and extremely dry and dusty. Kinda sweltering, too.

I live in southeast Georgia and have been to Florida many times so I suggest three things:
Thing 1 - Run as early in the morning as possible to avoid the heat and humidity. Run shorter and slower than normal...after all you are on vacation.
Thing 2 - Don't worry about the Why I Am Fat thread. I started that one already.
Thing 3 - Throw away the Bud and drink Corona while you are there. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Thanks Micah!
1. sounds good
2. accepted, you filled the spot, I don't compete with you
3. you are not serious: Corona is not a beer, it's malt lemonade with alcohol :t-:

OK...your response to thing 3 is prompting me to go to the Open Mic forum and start a beer thread. Everybody out of the pool and over to Open Mic. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

As I am back now (survived Frances) I can answer my question:
- You can't run at all
To be precise I can't, I have seen some tough guys doing their training.
I tried it once and it was as running against of wall of heat and humidity, with a feeling that the brain bursts. So I laid back and did nothing, - how disappointing.
Today I ran my first slow 10 k jog, and it hurt!
So I guess I have to start slowly and gain my old strength back, and I also have to loose 6 pounds ...
Regards

That sounds like one of my vacations Peter!!!
I've always thought that if you can run in the heat and humidity of the south then you can run in any kind of weather. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

After 3 days slow motion jogging, I went yesterday back to the hard stuff a 8 K fast run. I was anxious to see how much I have lost of over the last weeks. Surprisingly I felt great, and was easily able to keep up with my mates. I might be wrong, but I had the feeling it went better than before.
Also my knee pain, which I had during the first 3 days is gone.
So my concern, that I must start from nil is not true, thank goodness!

Nothing like a good taper.
Of course, the real test is the 2nd and 3rd runs after the time off...
