hey you lightweighters, Peter the 200 pounder (172 cm) demolished the 50 minutes barrier in a 10 K race: 49:12
Although I worked very hard for this goal in the last months, I was this morning in pure panic mode: I slept extremely bad, dreamed about a 10 K race where people were applauding to Peter when he eventually made it after 1 hour and 45 minutes and all were wait for me to pack and go.
Shock 2, were when I checked my weight and found that I have gained 3 pounds since yesterday (this was not a dream). I began to hesitate if I am able to run a descent time at all! In the warm up I couldn't get control over my heart rate, even the easiest jog brought it over 150 and 160 is my threshold. I decided to forget the HR and just concentrate on the feeling.
The race itself was absolutely perfect I had always 4:50 to 4:55 per km, the second half was even faster. On km 8 I made 4:40 on km 9: 4:25.
In this last 2 km I caught 3 people in front of me, the last one 100 m before the end, when I started my 100 sprint (YOU CAN'T WIN IN THE LAST 100 M AGAINST ME!). For this I got finally a clap from the people.
This is now a new record for me, and I was over 2 minutes better as in my last competition in December where I set 51:18.
Now I am looking for new challenges, - and another beer
Regards
Peter |

Now there is a man after my own heart (and weight class)
Congratulations
Was there a Clydesdale division and how did you do there? _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

It looks as I am still suffering. After 2 days of light training I wanted to re-start yesterday with "real" training, but I had to abort after 30 minutes with painful stitches in the side. There was no way to get it under control, and the HR went up to 170 even in jogging pace. This is unusual because I don't had such symptoms, yet and I can't remember that I stopped training in the last 18 months. Today my legs seems to be made of led, and I feel pretty much as I am 64
Peter
PS: our coach announced yesterday my time to the others and complimented me on the effort and focus I had to achieve it . It ended with backslapping and congrats of our champions, who run even in their recovery jogs faster as my race speed, a strange but good feeling . |

Those champions recognize a great accomplishment when they see it.
Don't worry too much about your recovery. I've always read that your recovery period from a race should last one day for each mile of the race so a weeks recovery would be about right for you. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Fantastic time!! Us fat guys need to stick together. I never really have much of an opportunity to run 10Ks in my area. Most races are 5K, but I really don't think I would be close to 50. I have gone through 6 miles in 52 or so during training runs so I know how hard it is. _________________ 7/10/03 - 325

after all my excitement, it seems I've lost my motivation. I am waiting now 3 weeks to return to normal, but nothing happens. It's not what we call in German the "battle against the mental swine" (I guess you have a similar idiom), this guy is quiet. I still run, but I don't enjoy it .
I am not yet desperate, but I am at a loss.
Can somebody kick me in my a...

What you are going through is not unusual. You set a worthwhile goal and then you worked hard to achieve it and now everything else is anticlimactic. You have had time to recover from the physical effects of the race so the next step is to set a new goal and work toward it. A reasonable new goal might be to break 48 minutes. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Run with other people. That will pull you through the doldrums almost every time.
