I ran my Air Force 1.5 mile run test today, and completely died on the second lap of 6. I had a nasty upper respiratory infection the week before last until the middle of last week, and have no doubt that it is the reason why my performance was so poor today. Today's time was 10:15, normal time is 8:45 or less.

Anyone on here know how long it takes to get your wind back after an upper respiratory infection? This is the first time I've have anything worse than a cold in nearly 20 years.

I've officially lost my rep as the squadron's fastest runner... unless I can get a re-test. Mad

Thanks,
Mike

Just guessing, but I would think it would take at least 2-3 weeks total.

Tough luck Mike, Do you still have symptoms? Read somewhere that it is ok to run if the symptoms are above the neck but not ok if the symptoms are below the neck.

You will get your fitness back reasonbly soon. Do you have another fit test in 6 months? I know that is a long time to wait but it is also plenty of time to get ready to reclaim your crown. Very Happy

Thanks, Dan and Micah.

I'm trying to do a retake at the end of the month... just depends if they'll allow it. The test is normally done every year, although I'm headed off to school in August and don't know if they test while we're pursuing higher education.

I still scored Excellent overall, just was hoping to make this a perfect score. The only thing that kept me from doing so was what usually is my strong point--the run. I've not had symptoms for the past few days... maybe a touch of congestion... but it was like something was wrapped around my heart and lungs today... not a pleasant feeling!!

Thanks,
Mike
