Dan & Micah, that is indeeed my weight. I started slowly by walking/trying to jog in July, and by the end of summer was biking quite a bit. I finally began to jog in mid/late October and ran my first 2 miler on Thanksgiving (18:02 and I was proud!!!). Since then things have progressed at varying degrees of success, but I am having an enjoyable time, and hope to continue getting better. To answer Micah - low fat (below 60) and pretty high carbs. i also keep a journal and count everything and for the first few months usually was between 1900-2100 calories a day. As my training has increased I have climbed up to about 3000 calories a day. My weight loss plateaued in early January (I was at about 225-230), and since then has trickled down as I have a faily large frame. An outside goal for the M is 190, but I am not certain. _________________ 7/10/03 - 325

Thanks guys. I still have a long way to go to get to where I think I can. Just like losing the weight, my times came down quickly once I actually got started, but I realize age (39) and years (10 plus) of basic diet abuse and inactivity are going to be a couple of major hurdles to getting better. I feel like I am in fantastic shape, but seem to just inch along. I have recently begun to add some speed work (tempo running, 3/4 sprint/intervals, and 400/800's) once a week to see if helps with my progress. All suggestions are welcome. I read tons of the colums and articles out there, but real life experiences are what I want to here about. _________________ 7/10/03 - 325

5K coming up on Sunday. Course is out and back with a gradual incline to start. I really want to get below 24, but would be pleased with a PR (24:26). My son will finally get an age group (10U) where he thinks he can compete. He is 9 and in his few races has been in the 14U division. I don't know how many people will be in my division. They actually have a 200lb. division. They call it the Clydesdale division. It will be fun to actually compete against some other heffers!!
I usually take run my long run on the weekend, but am bumping it up to today. 10 miles. I hope it doesn't take too much out of me. _________________ 7/10/03 - 325

Sounds good. When you start to get diminishing return you have to add a new stress, which it sounds like you're doing with the speed work.
Good luck with the race. |

That weight loss is impressive. I think you are a new role model.
Good luck in the 5K. You could be the first on the Forum with a Clydesdale trophy! _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Looks like trouble is looming for Sunday. I cut yesterday short as my feet were frozen. Only about 3.5 miles in a terrible snow/slush storm. I got very wet, very fast.
The forecast for Sunday is 35ish with snow and high winds. When will spring come to Ohio? I still want a PR, but who knows. _________________ 7/10/03 - 325

Ouch. We're looking at low to mid 70's for Saturday.

I ran a 24:56 yesterday in the snow and a really hard/gusting wind. I was a little dissappointed, but won the Clydesdale division and my son came in in 26:10 winning his age group (10U) so he was excited. Back at it today, with temps hopefully in the mid 30s. When will winter be gone? _________________ 7/10/03 - 325
