I know this should be in the 'Distance Den'...Sorry for that, but everyone should be aware of the great distance finals. They are all hot!!!
The Women's 800m final is as hot as ever, with Maria Mutola (MOZ) running 1:57.72s in the Heat...going through the bell (the first 400m) in 56.35s!!! From the looks of things when I was watching the race on TV she looked to going for the WR, maybe in the final???
Ceplak ran a good race...but she had to work hard in the home straight fighting off a brief challenge from some not very known athletes from Belgium and Ukraine (sorry cannot remember the exact names)
Jennifer Toomey (USA) looked impressive as she eased through the heat winning by about 1.5m-2m form second place.
The Women's 1500m final looks good with Kelly Holmes (who eased through winning her heat) as does Alesya Turova (BLR), who I believe is the favourite heading into the final. But anything can happen as always!
Berhane Adere looks impressive as always...easing through the heat in 8m:49.76s, qualifying as the fastest woman...she is surely the favourite for the final...but I think she should recieve a strong challenge from fellow Ethiopian Meseret Defar in the final...

Turova's running well now? What happened to her last year (outdoor)?

I predict Mutola won't run much faster in the final ... Ceplak will run around 1:58 and Toomey will get her 1:59 ....
Turova needs to do well here in order to give herself soem psychological strength going outdoors ... Cause we all know there is a young lady from Turkey ready to eat her lunch ...
I think Adere is becomign the femal version of Geb !!! _________________ Conway

Bernard Lagat finally wins a major Gold medal...Rui Silva was also impressive winning the Silver medal...
Kutre Dulecha (ETH) won easily after a great kick with about 350m remaining...I was wrong about Alesya Turova...I believed she was going to win after seeing her in heats...but she seemed to fade in the final stages and could only finish in 7th place in 4:09.81s...compared to Kutre's 4:06.40s and the 4:08 and 4:09 in front of her...Kelly Holmes (another contender in this final who I thought would medal in this final) fell in the Women's 1500m final, and then caught the end runner of 'the pack' but when she realised there was no chance of a medal, she eased off and jogged through...
I'm looking forward to the Women's 3000m final...should be a good race with some top Africans battling it out as always..there are also some good Russian runners in that final...so that should be a good race...Joanne Pavey and Hayley Tullet go in the final for GBR...a possible medal chance for us Brits???
Women's 800m should be a good race...but after seeing Ceplak in the Semis today..I don't believe it will be another Mutola dominated race...I believe Ceplak will challenge...as should a relatively uknown Russian Tatyana Andrianova who ran sub-2:00...Jen Toomey secured her place in the final beside the big names...good luck to her...
Jo Fenn also runs in the final...but she has a habit of running good, solid qualifying rounds and then when it comes to the final she sets an early suicidal pace...and hangs on...only to be passed in the final 100-150m when she is dying from her stupid early pace...remember last year's WIC Women's 800m final??? Anyway good luck to her and everyone else compeitng tomorrow... _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

I'm glad to see Toomey in the finals and looking forward to seeing what she can do against Ceplak and Mutola with everything on the line. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Just finished listening to the women's 800 final ... Mutola wins, but Ceplak was leading through the final turn and Mutola apparently almost knocked her off the track as Ceplak was holding her off !!!! 1:58's ... _________________ Conway

Jo Fenn has suprised me!!!
A British record and PR also winning Bronze...she seems to have matured in the last year or so...another British medal prospect for Athens???
Mutola dominates again...but it was close..and you were right Conway, that Mutola wouldn't run any faster thna she did in the Heat....
Berhane Adere was outsprinted in the final 50m of a slow 3000m...just for looking for the results... _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.
