Ran for 115 minutes today, so I did about 15M including warm up and cool down. Still really windy but fortunately the rain was nice enough to hold off. Going up steep hills when you're dead tired with quite a bit of wind coming right at you isn't exactly the most enjoyable type of running, but we all know that.

Hopefully I'm able to keep my regiment for the next 36 weeks or so.

Very nice.

Didn't seem too windy to me today, although I suppose I never really left my neighbor's kitchen... Rolling Eyes

Do you get a lot of fruit baskets around the holidays for helping (seemingly) everyone in the neighborhood out?

I've gotten a few such things. When it comes to food, I pretty much tell everyone not to plan around me. Not worth the trouble.

Here's a direct Copy and Paste of my race from my own Word log:

Distance: 15k (9.32 miles), Time: 1:11:59, Pace: 7:43.4 per mile, 4:47.9 per kilometer
Even though I was running 50% more than I had ever run (in a race) before, I wasn’t particularly nervous. I knew my 13.5 miler last weekend would really help in this race. I took the previous two days off completely, partly because I wanted to be completely healthy and rested and partly because the weather has been pretty bad. The first ¾ of a mile of the race was a very steep hill we had to climb. I started out the race pretty conservatively because I didn’t want to be tired after the first hill. After the first mile, the pavement ended and we were forced to run on gravel. This really slowed me down. About five people passed me during the mile and a half on gravel. Although I don’t know exactly, it felt that miles 1-3 were the slowest of the entire race. Once I got back on the pavement I was able to pass a few of the people that passed me earlier and was able to pick up the pace quite a bit. It wasn’t until 8M that I felt feeling a little fatigued. At no point in the race did I question whether or not I would have to slow down considerably. When I got to the finish I was extremely happy to have broken 72. My original goal was to break 75, so I smashed that. I don’t know when the next race will be, hopefully some time in March.

So far it seems this longer distance stuff is paying off. I hope to do the Shamrock in March, even if Paul can't because of injuries.

Very nice. Gotta love it when you finish 3 minutes ahead of goal time. Thumbs Up

Yeah, I know! I was really fortunate I didn't see a drop of rain while I was running. It's been raining for about 6 hours straight now, gotta love it.

Now we just need to teach you how to run on gravel. Smile

I think I did the 2.5 miles (first was almost straight up and 1-2.5 was slightly inclined on gravel) in about 20:30. Once I got on the road I was able to move at about 7:30 pace without too much effort and 7:00 pace on the slight declines.

I'm a little sore but that's to be expected. I hope I can find some more races in the Salem area between now and the HM I hope to do at the end of June.

Being mostly uphill, it probably wasn't the gravel slowing you down all that much. But if that is an area of weakness, think about it like running downhill. If your body position is passive, you get back on your heels and kill momentum. Lean forward, get forward on your feet, and suddenly momentum is working in your favor. It's toughest when you're tired, which is all the more difficult to deal with on uphills.

Keep an eye on the activesalem.com event calendar. We're filling it out with area events, including ones organized by other groups.

Did 2M at BP like I wanted to. The week off coupled with my pretty intense cold made this not one of my best runs. Fortunately I felt no pain in my leg, so that's the most important thing. Tomorrow I'll try to bump it up to about 3 miles.

After another two weeks off, I think I'm finally healed. I bought some orthotics, a knee band, and have been taking anti-inflammatory pills for the past week. I did 2.5 miles today and haven't felt pain since. Hopefully I am completely healed and can start building back up slowly.

Obviously I'm notgoing to do the Shamrock Run this weekend. Crying or Very sad

Keep up the icing after your runs during this buildup period. It'll help fend off any inflammation that may arise while getting reacclimated.

Three runs the past four days! I took today off just because I didn't want to run four days in a row after taking two weeks off. I plan to do about 20-25 miles this week.
