I saw the thread from over a year ago about people's favorite kind of music to listen to while/prior to running. Here I thought I'd ask what kinds of music people listen to in general. Here are some of my favorites:

Song: Shine On You Crazy Diamond- Pink Floyd
It's hard to believe a song 25+ minutes long (both parts) could be so entertaining through out its entirety. Every time I listen to it, I enjoy it more and more.

Album/CD: Lateralus- Tool OR Wish You Were Here- Pink Floyd
Although Dark Side was a great CD (and well deserving of 2nd best seller all time), WYWH is superior to it. Although it's has just five tracks (four really, considering 'Shine On' takes up two), they are some of the best I've heard. Tool, I believe, is a pretty misunderstood band. Most of my friends think they're a death metal band just because their first 1.5 albums were angry. Now that they've grown older, their music is much calmer and can be smoothing. There are still some hard moments, but not nearly as many as before. If I could only choose one between Lateralus or WYWH, I'd choose Lateralus just because it's 30 minutes longer.

Band: Tool
Not bad when you produce all your four albums are masterpieces. From their shorter early albums to their last two 75 minute albums, I cannot imagine finer music. It's no wonder that many people call them the Pink Floyd of the 90s. Speaking of PF, I'd put them at number 2 on my list.

What does everyone else listen to? I saw Dan listened to rap Laughing

which isn't too surprising after having met him.

I liked Snoop when he debuted on Dre's album, but haven't much cared for any of his stuff since. Only heard bits and pieces of DMX, and it hasn't really caught my fancy. I don't care for most of the new stuff, actually. Ice Cube, NWA, Heavy D, The Goats, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, LL, Ice T, Too Short, Mixalot, EPMD, Gheto Boys...

I like Run DMC, Beastie Boys, and LL. Haven't heard much of the other artists to have an opinion.

Interestingly enough, my 7th and 8th grade Science teacher is cousins with one of the Beastie Boys (maybe it's second cousins, but they're related). I think that's pretty cool.

I don't think they had the best relationship (or any relationship at all). Whenever someone would bring up the BBs, my teacher would be quick to change the subject or start talking about something related to Science. Did the SHG do the song "Rapper's Delight"?

Ah yes, I remember that music video. I think it's the only rap video ever to not include a Bentley or dozens of near naked women.

I don't think I've ever seen a video for it, but it's most likely the heavily abridged version. The full version is 12 minutes. The one you hear everywhere is 5 minutes or so. Took me a while to track down the full version on CD -- even their compilations have the short one -- but I finally did...

One of my favorites recently passed away...Warren Zevon. Most people have heard Werewolves of London but Zevon was much more than just that song.

Another favorite is Jimmy Buffett...and again Buffett is much much more than Margaritaville.

Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead and Phish are favorites. I've also been captivated by Lucinda Williams lately.

I'm probably more in tune with Micah's picks. One CD I've been giving a lot of air time to, lately, is Super Session by Bloomfield - Kooper, 1968.

Stupid me....I just looked at your post again and saw that you mentioned that it was a CD. I've been looking all over for a copy of John Stewart's "Bombs Away Dream Babys" and finally found a store that could order it. I'm still waiting on it to arrive.
