OK, everyone else is doing it so here is my training and racing thread.

I made it through the summer with 4 races; training runs of 10, 9.4 and 9 miles and no injuries. So I come back home and aggravate the foot again. So I am doing VERY slow training runs with walk breaks on some of the longer ones. Which right now means anything over 6-8 miles.

So I will let the foot heal some more and while I am waiting on that I will pace the wife in a 5K tomorrow and a half marathon next weekend. The half marathon will be her first and we plan on using a slow shuffle with walk breaks. Kind of a moving picnic from aid table to aid table. Wink

We ain't fast but we're having fun Exclamation Very Happy

I didn't realize you had run that many races. How bad is the foot aggravation? Just a bit sore, or does it feel reinjured?

Sounds like a lovely afternoon. Bring along some binoculars and you can get a little bird watching in while you're at it. Smile

BIRD WATCHING Surprised Surprised Surprised I LOVE IT Exclamation Exclamation

Yeah, tomorrow will be low key. But that is all right...sometimes it is fun to pace the Sweet Baboo through a race.

The four races this summer were the 8K and 5K I ran with the daughter and the two 1.5 mile runs at the school. I count them as races cause we were all trying to run as fast as we could and they certainly turned into races.

I had a severe pain start up on the outside of my left foot about two weeks ago. I had run an easy 2 miles one night. There was no pain in the run and no pain after the run. But the next morning I was limping and then the next two days I was on crutches. But the fourth day the pain subsided and now it is almost gone. So I am just going very slow for now and evaluating the feeling every day.

I'll survive.

Hopefully, you just aggravated some soft tissue in that area.
In the XC race where I finished 72nd, I got beat by a ten year old. I mounted a decent sprint with 300 to go to pass him and another guy, got into the chute and didn't realize the finish line was toward the back of the chute. So I'm walking through and this kid passes me right under the finish banner. Dan is going to chew my ass out tomorrow for not paying attention to those details. Embarassed

Have fun in the half. Any chance in finishing in the 2:15:00 range?

We haven't heard from RangerG lately. I wonder how their half went?

Hmm, did they tell you ahead of time the finish was at the end of the chute? Confused That's rather counter-intuitive.

Micah, anything that puts you on crutches is worth being careful with, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Sweet Baboo? Just don't make the mistake of adding a "n" to the end of that...

Sweet Baboo: That's a term from Micah's and my era. You younger guys have different ones. Wink

With Kevin, you never know about his races.

RACE REPORT

The Sweet Baboo and I ran the Hoofin' For Habitat 5K this morning. It was a fundraiser for the local Habitat for Humanity chapter. The course was flat and run on the campus of our alma mater, Georgia Southern University. I was class of 1979 and Sweet Baboo was class of 2002. Wink

The weather was 60 degrees with a pleasant breeze and sunshine. Only one slight uphill incline and one downhill incline when we went around Sweetheart Circle...the oldest part of campus and sight of the largest live oaks in the area.

I paced the Sweet Baboo whose goals were to finish the race without walking and break 36 minutes. Not only did she abstain from walking she ran an 11:03 pace for a 34:16 and a 3rd place in her age group. Thumbs Up We were pleasantly surprised with the age group medal.

Next weekend it is off to Bluffton, SC where I will pace the Sweet Baboo in her attempt to break 3 hours in her first half marathon. We ain't fast but we're having fun. Very Happy

Isn't Bluffton where you ran the 2 3.05K's last year, to the end of the pier?

Bluffton is the same place and this is a full 13.1 and not a 13.05 Wink

And I suppose I should point out that the Sweet Baboo is the same age as me. It just took her longer than most to work her way through college. Very Happy

The day she walked across the stage and received her diploma was a great day. She had finally graduated from college and beat her daughters by three years. Thumbs Up

I figured as much, but I had to give you a hard time at least until you clarified. Wink

Did an easy 6 Sunday and will so the same tomorrow. May do an easy 3 Friday, haven't decided yet. Then Sunday is the half at Bluffton. After that there is a 4.8 cross country race in November that will be the next target.

The foot is ok as long as I run slow. So I think I will just do that and continue the weight loss efforts. I got down to 185 this summer but I've put a few back on since getting home. (The Sweet Baboo is a good cook.) I'll save the speed work until I get to a much lighter weight. Of course it could be that I've reached an age where my body won't tolerate fast running. I hope not but I won't give up yet.
