The top Americans seem to be turning their focus from track to the roads. My guess would be because the prize money for top US finishes is much easier to come by than that of the unbiased international fields in Europe. As a result, they seem to be running at a higher level.
Runyan, Browne, Meb, Drossin, Rhines, etc.

I can see a lot of truth in that, so it becomes a career motive. Plus, if they continue at a fairly high level, there's money to be made in the Masters' divisions, also. |
