OK ... We're down to just a couple days before the start of the World Championships ... Here's as good a place to chat about it as any ... TElevision here in the United STates sucks ... But thank goodness for the internet ... I'll be "watchin" it unfold here ... Any of you outside the states with a better TV package are welcome to provide updates ... LOL ...
I must say I am very apprehensive about this edition of the Worlds as so much is up in the air ... But I have to say tht it is the best game around ... So let the games - and chit chat - begin ... _________________ Conway

If anyone is fortunate enough to tune in to Canadian broadcasts, the coverage on CBC ought to be pretty good.
I might have more to say about specific events once final entries are declared and start lists actually posted...

It is a shame that a nation that can produce such a wealth of talent cannot allocate a decent amount of airtime for track. The big four sports have such a monopoly on the sports media, the kind of exposure they get i am surprised that american highschool children take up track and field seriously in th first place.
Even in the uk the main sports of discussion will be primarily football(soccer), cricket or rugby. The average joe will probably be able to name one or two track athletes if that, yet athletics is given its due coverage throughout the season.
I feel sorry for you guys who have such in-depth knowledge and understanding of the noble sport but are deprived the chance of decent coverage, even of its major championship in a country that has hundreds of channels available. |

Sometimes I think I fell in love with the wrong sport.

I'm actually Canadian. I just refer to the U.S. as "we" and "our" to confuse people.

Chambers and Greene apparently both proclaimed at a press conference today that they would be world champ...

Australian media tycoon Rupert Murdoch who owns Fox television also owns Sky TV (or has a substantial stake) in the UK. One of skys sports channels, Eurosport will be showing live coverage all day so surely it could have shown at least an hour of delayed highlights after peak viewing hours on Fox.
I think conway you need to right this wrong by writing a long letter to Fox
sports convincing them to allocate a little time for future world championships, after all, skysports and eurosports are part of their vast portfolio.
Dan, you certainly got me confused.!
I visited canada briefly during september 2001 while the wc were taking place. The coverage of the games was'nt too bad but i suppose it was mainly due to the fact that the games were being held on home soil, so it was probably a one off.
Am i right to conclude that canadians passion for track is hardly more than the americans have for it. |

Yes ... So far these two men are the ones with the bravado ... Which means that they will probbly be in the medals ... You have ot believe in this type of situation ... I have an eerie feeling about thsi race that I can't explain ... Something is going ot happen here ... Not sure what, but just feel like something is going to happen in this race ...
Kishan I think I just may write a letter to Murdock ... IT is sad that in this country we can't get decent coverage of this event ... And I literally ahve over 200 channels to choose from on my TV ... I can get cooking 24 hours a day .. And music and kids shows and on and on .... But I can not get World championships of track and field for one week ... ... I even go t good coverage of the Tour de France !!!!! Gotta be a way ... _________________ Conway

I can if you like provide results of prelimenary mens and women sprints as they happen but leave the results of the final for you to seek out so not to dampen the excitement.
This way you can look at the results of the earlier rounds to speculate on what may happen in the final, something i love doing although i rarely get it right. |

You can post them all as far as I am concerned ... Not sure how the others would feel ... Nothing like LIVE to me ... THAT is excitement enough .... _________________ Conway

Kishan, I didn't know any of that about Eurosport/Sky TV/Fox. I also assumed Murdoch was American... That situation makes the lack of coverage here even more pitiful.
That would be great if you wanted to provide prelims play by play. Micah does so from time to tim with Ultras, and it's always more entertaining than just reading the results.

Pretty typical, actually. Coverage is thorough for pretty much all meets, especially championship ones. The one thing I've noticed in recent years is a bit of a switch toward the US approach of highlighting events with Canadians and a select few others. Watching Canadian coverage, you're often left thinking that only Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand are competing.
Conway, I hope you don't get these ominous feelings often?

Had this feeling twice ... 87 and 96 ... Both times ended up with what I considered upsets in unusual races ...
87 of course Ben beat Carl and set the WR ... But it was the manner in which he won the race ...
96 was Bailey ... Again in WR ... And arguably the favorite - Linford - false started out in one of the most bizarre races in history ...
I just feel funny about this race ... Something different/eerie is going to happen ... _________________ Conway
