Ok.....I am fairly new to the running scene...(i started about a year ago) I began with one mile....eventually i increased the distance to about 6 miles which is where I am now. my pace is about 9:45 per mile. I want to try cross country in college, but I can not seem to break the 6 mile mark and my pace seems far too slow! Do you have any advice for me? I just started weight training and I am hoping that increasing strength will help improve my performance.

___Do you remember not to run too fast? Throw the rules into a trash can, if they do not work for you.
___You may suck. I was able to run 6.2 miles or 10K in roughly 60 minutes being 40 lbs overweight.
___Have you done any speed work? Intervals or repeatitions?
___Are you a long distance runner?

___Try this, I am not an expert, run four times 800 meters each in 4:00 minutes. Couple days later try to run 1600 m in 8 minutes. See what will happen.
___All best.

Sometimes just mixing things up will help you get out of a steady pace rut. You may be capable of faster than 9:45 pace but just don't yet know what it feels like to push past that comfort zone.
