well, today we had our first day of XC. i took all the advice you guys gave, and thought about it hard. i realize i don't have to like XC, but i know it'll help for track. after weighing the positives and the negatives, i decided to go for it. if i hate it, then i won't do it next year.
i missed the first practice this morning but i went to the one tonight. all we did was run for about 30 minutes or so by ourselves or in a group. i ran by myself because i don't really know anyone on the team (and i'm not making it a top priority to become Mr. Social and meet them all). it went pretty well except for the fact that just because i said it was first year of XC my coach thought that meant i had no prior running experience and acted as if i didn't know what was going on.
she said my school was picked to be first in league which was a huge surprise to me. i'm confident i'll be able to be in the Top 7, but if not it's not that big of a deal. we have two-a-days pretty much everyday until school starts, so it'll probably be similar to my workout schedule (excpet for the fact our first practice begins at 8:30 AM). all in all it wasn't too bad, but i hope our workouts start to get harder. |

Congrats on your entry into the wild world of XC.
It seems typical for HS practices to start out a bit on the easy side to break things in gradually. It's not like college DI where you hear nasty initiation week horror stories with workouts the first week steadily increasing in difficulty, designed to separate the men from the boys...
South is picked #1 in league? I wouldn't have guessed that. I figured Sprague and McKay were a ways ahead, but maybe they graduated a bunch of their guys? I know one of McKay's top guys is a frosh at Willamette this fall.

that's what she said. i went to OregonLive to see if it was true, but couldn't find anything about XC for 2003. She probably got her info wrong considering the Valley League winner last year is returning to Sprague. Come to think about it, it seems to be South would be near the bottom of the pack. We'll find out soon enough.
BTW, is it Vierya that is going to be a Bearcat? |
