I saw so many bloody "nips" this past weekend at the B2B, I am sure that a tech material would be better. I'm not into "nip-guards"

Been too tied up at work to try and make iron-on transfers, but I will get to it at some point.

Orange running shorts? Very cool. I think that's one of the few orange items I don't own, although my OSU racing shorts are black with a customized Beaver logo with partial orange. I have orange basketball-style shorts, shirts, jacket, Levi's (!), and shoes (orange/black/white)...

Graham, to illustrate my lack of current shoe knowledge, I had to dig into my shoe stash yesterday as my latest test ended on the 5th and the last pair I was wearing between tests were rather worn. I pulled down a couple boxes of Zoom Alpha's, circa late '97, and both were brand spankin' new other than an initial test wearing to make sure they fit properly. I think I have a pair of unworn and rather uncomfortable Max Triax somewhere in there, too.

Dan, You didn't like the Max Triax? I wore those for years and liked them. Just shows you how different shoes feel on different feet.

I've had a few different pairs and liked them, then I ordered 3 pairs on a team order and wasn't at all impressed with the batch. The sizing seemed different and they were very cramped and stiff. Never did break in. One of them is basically a gardening shoe, one I believe is unused, and the other I don't recall seeing in quite some time...

You must have enough shoes to start your own store Dan. Have you tested the Max Moto or Air Pegasus? Those are the only Models I'm familiar with.

My store wouldn't have much variety to it... I'm not familiar with the Moto, but I just got done running in a pair of Pegasus for 10 weeks. Decent shoe, but a bit too "everything to everyone" for my taste. I moved back into my beloved Zoom Alphas and immediately had two of my best runs of the past year.

RangerG, how do you like your Air Storm Pegasus' and NB 904's ?? They are being discounted right now because new models are coming out. I have never bought a trail shoe, even though half of my running is done on trails. I feel as though my ankles and feet could use a bit of a break with the extra support, and I definitely could benefit from the extra traction.

The trails I run on are in good shape, but wet weather is just around the corner. A good trail shoe would keep me on that surface clear into the late Fall. I use lightweight cushioned trainers right now. Specifically the NB 827's. The NB 829's, 830's, and 831's are not suited to the trail at all.

Any comments from Dan, Graeme, Micah and Jafar would be welcomed, too. (And anyone else who wants to chime in ) Ducks Fan, what kind of shoes do you wear for your track workouts??

I still like my Air Storms the best, but the NB 904's run a close second.

I do need to think about road shoes because I find myself running more and more 5 and 10k's due to the new lady friend

I have an odd overpronation in that my right foot overpronates, but my left is nutral. My right also tends to roll to the outside, so I need motion control and stability. Any ideas folks? I am not a road shoe expert.

Did 10k today on the rail trail, and felt like I could have gone on for another. Steady pace rythmic breathing...it all sorta came together today. Not my best timewise, but I feel the old self coming back. Of course it was not a race, so there was not the competative drive....just a nice run.

Paul, for the trails you run, you'll proabably want to go with the light duty trail shoes. Something that has traction, some durability/support, and is reasonably built for road usage. Some of the adidas trail shoes would be extreme overkill, but I'm sure there are plenty of good options.

Dan and Garrett, I think the NB's and Pegasus's would fit the bill perfectly. They fall into the 13 oz range, which would be somewhat light for a trail shoe.

Garrett, your right foot almost sounds like an under pronation problem. (supination in the orthopedic world) Check the wear pattern of your shoes. If I remember correctly, you are in the same ballpark, weight-wise, as I am. I tend to be a neutral runner with a midfoot strike, very dimished heel strike. If you like New Balance (I go for the wide width) you might look at the 830's if they are still around. I go for a half size larger than recommended, and put a double insert in each shoe.

Other than that, there are many shoes out there that would do you well. If you are looking for a specific racing shoe, go with one of the brands that has a shoe under 12 oz, perferrably close to 11 oz. These aren't necessarily racing flats, but very light cushioned trainers. I don't venture out for any length of time in my 831's, but they do quite well for me on the track for my interval workouts.

I have never run in trail shoes. The trails I have run on never felt technical enough to require them. Of course if I tried a pair I might change my mind. For many years Ann Trason never wore trail shoes but I am not sure what she wears now.
