I met the daughter in Alexandria the morning of the 4th for the Go Fourth 8K sponsored by the Potomac Valley Track Club. It was the first time we had seen each other since March so we both were very excited.
The course was a shady bicycle trail along the Potomac River and was mostly flat with some slight inclines. I would estimate about 100 were entered and the weather was mild so the stage was set for a nice little race. I was shooting for a sub 45 minutes and got that easily. I was only able to get splits for the first and last miles and they were 8:23 and 8:48. We were on an out and back course and even though the return was mostly downhill I was approaching a bonk in the last mile. I just haven't done the distance work to hold the pace that long. But overall I was very pleased.
And the daughter? I think her time was just under 35 minutes which was good for 6th overall for the women and 1st in her age group. I also think she was the 1st female with a tattoo.
So it was a good race and great start to a 4th of July that included the National Art Gallery, the Navy Memorial, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers and fireworks. Life is good. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Sounds like a ton of fun ... Great way to start the 4th !!!! When I was a youngster there used to be an AAu track meet held on the 4th and it was a ball ... Good for you and your daughter ... _________________ Conway

Sounds like a great outing! 35 minutes is right at 7 minutes per mile. There's certainly nothing wrong with that!! I take it from your standpoint, no hotspots in the legs, etc? Micah, I missed your email change while you are in Quantico. You might want to change your Profile until you get back home. Hope classes are going well.

For email while I am here I am using warthog705@hotmail.com
Next month there is going to be an all comers track meet at one of the high schools where the daughter competed. They even have a 10K scheduled!! I'm giving it some serious thought. I've run 5K on the track but never 10K. It is very tempting. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

10k on the track, yikes. As a friend once said in a similar context, "wow, that's a time commitment." Just make sure it's a good surface, because 25 laps wouldn't be great for your foot if it's hard and worn.

It is a rubberized track so that may not be so bad. But there is a road 5K at another location the same day and if the daughter wants to run it then we probably will. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |
