Of course you knew I would have to comment on a meet sponsored by a food company.
K'nacher looks great.
Devers....well, what can you say. Didn't run great and still wins.
Trammell...Larry Wade was closing the gap...and last week he closed it and won. Is this a possible weak spot for Trammell when they go outside and run the longer distance?
Mo...is there an injury problem here or has Mo passed his prime?
And yes Conway...any answers may be used when picking my fantasy team. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I consider Wade probably the strongest finisher of the current crop of hurdlers, so that doesn't really reflect poorly on Trammell.
I'm not sure what to make of Mo just yet... He's not running bad, but at the same time, he's not finding a way to rise above the competition like he used to. A couple more non-wins could start to affect his previously unflappable confidence...

Mo had something visibly wrong behind his knee in this meet ... It seems to be affecting his transition and mid drive ... At least that is how I saw it ... It was noticeable after his start to me ... And definitely so after the racae if you noted the slight hopping he was doing ... I'm wondering if he is still having the tendinitis problem or if it is something as a result ...
As for Trammell he is an outstanding starter in the hurdles and has never been the strong closer ... Same for his 100 races outdoors ... But he is definitely going to be a factor in the relay ... We will see if he tackles the sprints during the spring ....
Devers is simply the best hurdler on the continent ... We will see if the Euros can come up with an answer to her ... But speed seems to be waning on the other side of the sea .... _________________ Conway

Mop? Is that a descriptive term for the moping Mo will be doing if he doesn't win a race soon?
If Mo doesn't regain form this year, do you think he can do it in time for Athens? Or is the window too short for an elite sprinter that's already been around the block as many times as he has?

Well for starters 6.50 is by no means a dog of a time ... It's not like he is running 6.75 ... And there is still time left in the indoor season ... Mo has gotten faster each race .. If he gets to 6.45 he is pretty much on target ...
Everyone seems ready to write him off ... He is, I would say, in the middle of his career ... With about 3 great years left before he starts to go down ... If then ... Mo is one of those athletes like Edwin Moses, MJ, ElG, Bubka, etc that lulls you to sleep with their performances ... You begin to believe they CAN NOT LOSE ... And that if they do they are done ... Even if Mo were to lose the Worlds this year I would not say he is done ... Now should he lose this years biggest event AND next years then I would say his day in the sun is over ... But a sub par Mo was better than all but 2 people in the world last year !!! And he is only .04 off the best indoor time this season as we speak ...
I think it is nice when people can go undefeated ... But that in no way is the mark of a champion ... The mark of a champion is rising to the occasion ... That is one reason why Fredericks will always be remembered fondly ... He has always been right there when it mattered ... Didn't always win, but competed admirably ... And so far so has Mo ... Big meets for Mo this year will be US indoors, World Indoors should he make the team ... His first encounters this year with MOntgomery and Chambers ... US outdoors ... And Outdoor Worlds should he make the team ... Those events will define his season ... Everything else will be preparation ...
And I will say the same about Montgomery and Chambers ... And anyone else looking ot make tremendous impact ... It is highly unlikely that ANYONE will be undefeated this year (or next) ... The bar has been raised and the talent level out there right now is astonishing ... to go undefeated would mean to run at 9.95 or better EVERY TIME OUT ... Gonna be some down times .... And some "tweeking" going on ... And some resting and startegic scheduling ... Will make for a great season !!!! _________________ Conway

But it has been the mark of Mo up until very recently... It is very early though, and lots of competition stepping up, as you said.

Actually I think Mo has had on ly 1 undefeated season amonst the last several ... But when you win the ones that count people forget about the "minor" indiscretions ... LOL ... And I was right about Mo and an injury ... I was just an inch or so off as it is in the calf an not behind the knee !!!!!! Not bad for just watching the TV though !!!! _________________ Conway

Yes, but the way things are headed -- going back to middle of last season -- we'll be talking about Mo in terms of a "defeated" season instead of an "undefeated" one...
