Is anyone familiar with the book Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy by Dr. Walter Willet? He is the chairman of the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health and a professor of medicine at Harvard. I am about a third of the way into the book and am impressed so far.
He developed what he terms a better food pyramid than the USDA food pyramid and offers some easy to read science to back it up. It is interesting to note that his pyramid has as its base a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise a day.
To those interested in this sort of thing I recommend giving it a look. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Thanks for the reference, Micah. Its Willett. Book is available at our library, so I put a hold on it. Until then its whey protein and glucose polymers for me, chased with ample amounts of Samuel Smith (Lager, Nut Brown, Pale, Porter, Winter Ale) or anything that's handy.

A food pyramid that begins with exercise? That's a novel concept!

Maybe it is my age, but that was as good as the hotfitnessmodels website. The Oatmeal Stout and Nut Brown Ales are my favorite.
If you ever get to Savannah a trip to the Six Pence Pub is on me _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Heres a question thats a little off subject, but has anyone out there tried that new low carb beer? I've tried it, it tastes okay. But how much better than regular beer is it really. It's only about 10-20 calories less than my usually beer of choice and I wonder if it's worth spending more for this low carb beer. I'd probably do it if it would make my jeans fit better. Of coarse I guess I could cut back on the beer.... nah _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Low carb beer...light beer...naaaaaaaaaaaah :t-:
Some things I do not compromise on. If I am going to have a beer it is going to be a GOOD beer. Preferably full bodied, strong and flavorful.
Come to think of it that is a good description for my preference in..... _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

By the way Paul. If you come to Bluffton be ready for the heat, the humidity, and the seafood. Cause you are gonna get lots of all of them. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I was never much of a beer drinker until I got into microbrews many moons ago. If all there was in the beer world was Bud, Coors, Miller and their offshoots, I still wouldn't be drinking beer. But once I discovered what real beer was all about, and not some European's conception of what the American market was interested in, a whole new world of taste opened up before me.
As far as the low carb beers, I have absolutely no experience, there. But my opinion is, if you go with a full bodied beer you end up being satisfied with a whole lot less. I'll venture to say that 2 Oatmeal Stouts would be less calories than a six-pack of low carb beer.

I do suppose your right. If you look at the labels you'll find that regular soda is much worse for you than beer. But people don't sit down and have a six pack of pepsi on a regular basis. I enjoy good beer, it's just that my inner cheap-skate cringes at the idea of paying more than a dollar twenty five a beer when I'm buying a 6 pack. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

I enjoy Bud above all beers. Lately (last 2 months) I really haven't drank many (except when DG came down to NM). I find microbrews and dark beers to be sour and have bad aftertaste. |

I recently read an article that said that to decrease your risk of heart disease you need to drink more beer and spirits. Something along the lines of, in a multiple year study the people that increased the number of drinks they had daily had a lower heart disease rate than those that either didn't drink or maintained the amount they drank. I'll see if I can find a link. In the mean time bottoms up! _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |
