Jesse Owens Awards given ; http://www.usatf.org/news/showRelease.asp?article=/news/releases/2002-12-03-2.xml

I wonder if a pair has ever won the awards before ??? It hit me when I read the article that Marion's times are really on par with times run back in the 70's !!! while she may be the world's most dominant female sprinter, she has been progressively been going backwards over the past few seasons ... She would have had serious difficulty winning major races against the 70's best !!! And I might argue that whe would not have won any major 200 races Exclamation

What I found most sad however, is that Tim won the award truly on the basis of one race ... Had Tim NOT had that race who would have ranked as the top American for the season ???? The sad answer is who knows as it was not an outstanding season for American men Neutral

That's an interesting question... I can't think of any other couples that would qualify.

Marion's times would have been fairly standard among the early 90's crowd, with the likes of Ottey, Torrence, Devers, Privoliva, and probably a few others.

As for Tim winning it on the basis of one race, I don't really have a problem with that (the rest of his season wasn't terrible, just not outstanding), as that one race was arguably the best race ever run, at least on paper. That obviously counts for a lot, being the glamor event by many people's standards.
