Its been a while since I have posted. My team just finished the XC season and I finally have time to sit down at my computer and check stuff out. It will probable take me a couple of weeks to catch up so bare with me if I'm a little lost on the board. I hope everyone is doing well.

Sorry MW, I made a post about Hammer thinking he had left the boared never to return, then I thought better of it and deleted the post.

I'll let Hammer tell you how well his girls team did.

I know it's bad manners to post something and then delete it. But I felt like it was impollite to talk about how Hammers athletes did this year when he can do that on his own.

Wouldn't it be nice if it were as easy in the real world to take back what you said unintentionally just by clicking a delete post icon. Wink

I was also wondering what the reference was to, but I figured I was just too groggy to figure it out...

Well my girls team did do well this year. 2nd @ state (best finish in school history). District champs (3rd title in 4 years) My #1 girl finished 3rd overall (kind of a disapointment for the freshman she was one of the pre-meet favorites)

My boys finished 6th (there worst finish since I've been here) but they did win their 4th district title in a row.

Well done, Hammer! What state are you in, if you don't mind my asking?

And an officer, to boot. That oughta help keep them in line. Smile

I was waiting to see if you'd let the cat out of the bag.

Sorry if I forced your hand a little.

Hammer is an old teammate of mine. Probably the hardest racer (and competetor) I've ever been around. Although he wasn't terribly talented as a runner, the guy is one heck of a coach. I've been a guest speaker at some of his practices and classes, helped him come up with workouts and even once was the ringer at a road race he put on to raise money for his team. As a coach he isn't nearly as off the wall as some of his posts, although when it comes to his own training and racing he can be.

In his four years as a high school coach he's had both his boys and girls finish second once and his men won a state title a couple of years ago. If my memory serves the best they had ever done prior to his arrival (as a coach) was third on the men's side and I think that was when he was running for PHS.

The HS seen in NM isn't terribly good. From what I understand our sprints aren't very good I'm not to sure about throws. I do know that we've had three 7' high jumpers in the last 8 or so years which I personally find impressive although I have no idea how it stacks up to the rest of the country. Distance running is generally the thing we do best. We've had 5 Footlocker All Americans since I was in high school (including one I went to high school with and number as one of my very close friends). The latest was Felicia Guliford, who is a freshman at Tennesse this year. Matt Twiest (my nemisis) and Amy Swier my friend both made All American the same year (1995). We've also produced Ron Roybal (from Running with the Buffaloes), Brandon Lesslie (who I raced several times in college) who of coarse lost to David Krummenacker when I was a frehman.

On the general track front however NM is making progress. UNM has revitalized it's track and cross country programs. The coach, who started about three years ago is Matt Henry. He is of coarse the brother of LSU coaching great Pat Henry. The UNM men's X-C team was ranked as high as 27th this year, although injuries really hurt them in the end as they didn't quailify as a team. They did however send one runner to nationals Matt Gonzales who was a D2 all american as a frosh at NM Highlands before transfering.
