MICHAEL STEMBER – 2nd place, 1500 meters I knew going into the race it was going to be Lunn and me. We wanted to distance the field, and I – personally – was on a mission to be either first or second. When we got into town, we heard some rumblings which we didn’t think was right [about Alan Webb and the world championships if no one got the standard]. I was really disappointed about that and fired me up. I was feeling really good with 600 to go, but decided to wait..
Did anyone else read this quote on usatf.org? I wonder what exactly those "rumblings" were. Anyone know? I hope the organization wasn't talking about sending Alan Webb to WC's with out a top performance at nationals... that would be a great disrespect to rest of the field. It's been what almost two years since Webb has run an inspiring 1500m/mile. |
