From yesterday's USATF release:
Quote: | Williams sprints into action with H.S.I.
Angela Williams has joined Hudson Smith International (H.S.I.) as its newest member, coming from an impressive college career at the University of Southern California.
At USC, Williams became the only person ever to win four consecutive women’s NCAA 100-meter titles. Williams was the 2001 World Indoor silver medalist at 60 meters, is the collegiate record holder in the 60 (7.09), and was a 2001 World Championship semifinalist in the 100-meters. She holds the USC 100-meter record (11.04) and the American prep record (11.11).
During her senior year at USC, Williams won the Honda-Broderick Cup as the nation’s top female college athlete for 2001-2002, as well as the 2002 Mondo Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Year for NCAA Division I.
“This was a big decision for me,” Williams said of joining the H.S.I group. “Now that I have made it, I am motivated to work hard and accomplish my dreams. My first day at practice was great and everyone was extremely professional. Training with this group is going to push me to be better.”
Williams began training Tuesday with coach John Smith and Olympic medalists Maurice Greene, Ato Boldon and Jon Drummond, as well as fellow USC alums and Olympic medalists Inger Miller and Torri Edwards. |

Hmmm ... Nice signing ... She has lots of potential ... Could be good for Inger as well ... Also see that Ato and Mo are training together ... That is very good ... I get the feeling that 2002 was good for HSI ... Renewed hunger perhaps _________________ Conway

They were desparately in need of some new blood, and short of getting Tayna Lawrence, I think that was the best pickup available on the women's side. Too bad they didn't get Gatlin, otherwise they would have been just about perfect on paper.

She ran a windy 10.98 in HS ... She's become stronger onw and I am sure more so with the group ... I would say 10.90 .. Maybe better ... She is an awesome starter who basically needs to get a litle stronger to maintain that speed through the race ... I would even think that 10.85 is within her realm ... She's' about the size of Marlies Gohr and a few others that have run in that range ... _________________ Conway

With average coaching, I don't see much improvement from her. Like Conway said, she always seems to fade in races. I'd put her about Inger Miller's level out of college, and look how much Inger improved as soon as she started working with John Smith. He knows how to build strong athletes and how to teach complete race strategies, so I think that's a perfect fit that could pay huge dividends for each party.
