Left foot...4th metatarsal...3rd time in 16 months.
This can't be happening again.
And this cancels the trip to Quantico. I won't get to go now until sometime next year. So it is back to the doctor and try to figure out the cause and do something about it. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

You're kidding? Is this the same foot each time? Have they done any sort of a bone density scan?

Yep, same foot. I did have a bone density done and they said it looked ok. So we start again and keep looking. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Unbelieveable bad run of luck. A complete bummer!! I know that the physical portion of the Quantico trip was an important segment. What does this do for your promotion?? Was your promotion dependant upon making it to Quantico on this go around??
Rehabbing is so tedious!! We'll all be supporting you on this. You can be sure!!

Micah, if it makes you feel any better, I'll appoint you the Team Run-Down Honorary Captain.

Honorary Captain? I might like that.
As for the promotion, it is set. It was independant from the Quantico trip. And actually this postponment is better for me as far as getting settled into my new position and training my replacement for the position I just left. It will all work out. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Hang in thier MW. I feel for you, injuries stink and to have a recurring injury stinks worse. Good luck with the new position. And while your rehabbing you can take out and pent up energy by whipping your replacement into shape. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Been out of town for a couple of days so here is the doctor's update. He too, is concerned about the recurring nature of this thing. So he has told me to graaaaaaaaaaaaaadually build up to 3 runs of 30 minutes each per week and not to go over that for 6 months. I am taking calcium supplements and he wants to give the bone plenty of time to rebuild density.
So now I am on the rehab trail until April 2003. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Does this mean it's still broke but you can train on it?? What about walking on your alternate days?? This also means that you're going to have to get serious about getting your weight down where you want it, especially with all the holidays coming up.
Supplements: You need to get something with magnesium in it and boron, too. Check out Swanson's Vitamins online and take a look at Bone Building Formula with Boron and Bone Essentials. They are running some great sales this month. Also, a supplement that I have discovered helps quite a bit is Natrol's Flexanew. It is a natural cox-2 inhibiter with Glucosamine, Chondroitin and Calcium. It's on sale too.

Just type those into the keyword section. You can check on the ingredients list. For an extra 95 cents you get priority shipping. I've had nothing but good luck with them. They even send you an email confirmation.
This past week I have started running myself. I have been putting in up to 2.5 to 2.75 miles every other day, in sections of 400m to 1100m. Also walking on alternate days and lifting 3 times a week. And I'm still measuring different courses with my Rolotape!!
Good luck, thanks for the update!!

Thanks for the tips. In about 2 weeks or so I will start walking and after 2 weeks of that I will start adding in the running in very tiny increments. Once I am up to running three days I will add a fourth day of just walking. And yes, I have to lose weight. No alternative. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I'd have to say that I think everything Paul just said sounds good. Although if there is a chink in my armor of guruness it's supplements . MW good luck with the rehab, I think if you come back slow enough, stay on soft surfaces, and avoid wearing dress shoes while running ultramarathons run exclusively on cement you should be okay.
Paul it's good to hear your back running agian. Your program looks both solid and well balanced. Just remeber when coming back from injuries there are often set backs, remeber to be patient and that it's better to be too conservative than too aggressive. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |
