I was reading an article in Joggers Digest about Meb Keflezighi and how he is going to debute in the marathon at New York. They mentioned that his coach was now Bob Larsen. -Which is strange since I'm sure he was running for Vigil when he broke the AR in the 10k and leaving a coach that got you to that level makes no sense to me, but anyway- For the last half hour I've been going nuts trying to figure out who Bob Larsen is. I know I've heard his name before and I'm almost certain he's a successful (for an American at least) distance coach. I've checked both Amazon.com and the track and field news' book sectiona and I couldn't find any books he's authored. I thought he might have been the coach at UCLA but he isn't there either.
Where have I heard of this guy? Any help would be much appreciated. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Whew I found it. Turns out he was the former coach at UCLA (so my hunch was right) and he is also the US Olympic distance coach. And just as Joggers Digest created the question it held the answer as well. I hate to admit it but today I actually learned something new from that silly little magazine (or at least their web site) _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

A good freind of mine (as well as coachd I think) went to a clinic at which Joe Vigil spoke about coaching Meb. Although it could have been a collaboration where Vigil served as an advisor or some such thing. I'll have to double check with my sources but I'm almost certain. Of hearing Vigil working with Meb when he set the US record. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

As far as I know, Larsen has been Mebs coach since he left high school ... What surprises me is that he hasn't moved north to The Farm !!!
