This would be more fitting for a system announcement, but since this is the most heavily trafficed forum and I'd like feedback, I'll ask it here.
The long awaiting upgrade to this forum software is out and I have put together a test installation. I've done a lot of modifying of the code to make it integrate cleanly into Run-Down, and I believe everything is working properly. Here's the test installation:
http://run-down.com/phpBB2/
If you are so inclined, feel free to play around with it and test some of the features. Please disregard my dumb test messages. When you're focused on trouble shooting and code hacking, thinking of intelligent discourse with yourself is far from a top priority.
Conway, you'll be happy to know it is much better at remembering your login between visits.

Thanks, glad you like it.
It will go into effect as soon as I'm sure it's ready for prime time. Everything is working good so far as I can tell, but I haven't exactly tested every aspect and I've made enough changes to the code to have a nagging feeling that I may still have to fix something...
If people want to play around with it, that would help me ascertain its readiness. When it is ready to replace this version, I will delete all the test posts and start from scratch, so don't worry about not leaving a track.

Looks good... modifying phpbb2 is a LOT of work. I spent hours modifying the code one time and ended up messing it up pretty badly |

Ah, I didn't expect feedback from anyone who had actually worked with the program...

I have a lot of experience with php... next to running, web design and coding is what I'm most interested in.
I ended up created my own forum system....
*sigh* what a waste of time |

I'm swamped with work this week, but if no problems arise with the new forum over the next few days, I'll probably switch it over next week.

Sounds good. Quote: | I believe the term for that is, "Yet Another Bulletin Board"... | Yeah, there are a lot of them around now. The reason I made one myself was to learn more about php/mysql while I was doing it. |

Dan,
Looks very nice, easy to navigate, and with some added features like arranging the posts which I don't believe I saw before, but then I qualify as a true rookie on these boards. In fact this is the first one I've ever gone into.

Thanks, Paul. The new version looks to be a very well written program. Lots of new features without being overwhelming. Looks like it'll keep this rowdy bunch happy.

Well, as you can see, the forum upgrade has taken place. Far from a smooth process, with the upgrade script not working especially well (as opposed to the new install test), broken paths, etc. Things look to be working now, but I'll be keeping a close eye on things... Let me know if you encounter any problems.
Sorry for the prolonged forum downtime this morning.

I had to close the forums again for a few minutes to apply some fixes to the Users table... You should be able to log into your Profile now and set timezones and what not.
