I'm new to running and naive. Do most men use a supporter, or do they rely on the liner that comes in running shorts? What is the level of risk to damaging the goods by not wearing one, assuming I run in shorts with a liner?

I'm not aware of anyone that uses one for running (and I can't imagine why anyone would), but that's far from conclusive proof...

Actualy...
If you pay close attention to your genitals you will notice that one of your nuts is lower than the other. Hence when you run they mysteriously avoid one another in joyfull harmony.
Nature is funky.
