Today it snowed for the first time, and the snow is fresh so it is like running on water. I have finally went for the last option: get on a treadmill. It is absoluptely impossible to do intervals during witner on snow. Anyways I go on the treadmill which has a max speed of 12.5mph at 4:48/mile pace. I tried doing my 800m intervals at that speed because that is what I always do, and instead I get burned out on the first 200m. I stop running, and already I feel huge amounts of pain in my shins. Should I keep using the treadmill since it puts more stress on my body? I felt it puts about 3x as much stress than running outside....Personally I tried running a mile on it at full speed to at least run a 5 minute mile, and I could not even get through the first lap. On the screen there is a picture of a track with red arrows appearing around it as you run, so it makes it seem liek you are running on a real track. Besides all that, it sounds so loud when I run, boom after boom, after boom, like I am stomping my legs on it. This is really important for me, as I can't get anywhere if I don't do some form of fast running along side aerobic endurance (which I can do outside). _________________ My favorite all time race: Hicham El Guerrouj - Prefontaine Classic Mile 2002 http://youtube.com/watch?v=4YykUTHzOL8

In my opinion, pace comparisons between road/track and treadmill are worthless. The effort levels to go the same "pace" are just totally different for different people, depending on your stride. For me, I have to work about as hard at 9:00 pace on the treadmill as at 7-8:00 pace on the roads.

I actually think I have gotten used to the treadmill, and I actually prefer it more for interval sessions. Besides all that, I went outside at 5:00 a.m. to run, and the whole park was icy. I run on black concrete, a little bit more rocky than roads, so it has better grip. When I went out, the whole trail was like glazed, and when I tried to run I slipped and fell on my back. It is kind of hard to get on the treadmill too, because they close the doors so I need to break in through the broken window to use it. On the other treadmill, they lock the doors with chains, except they don't lock the door itself so you can easily unlock the chains from the inside by sticking your hand through the doorway. Any tips on how you all deal with the winter when trying to do intervals, etc.? _________________ My favorite all time race: Hicham El Guerrouj - Prefontaine Classic Mile 2002 http://youtube.com/watch?v=4YykUTHzOL8

Simply amazing, It has been ages since my leg muscles ached from running a session, but when I got on the treadmill, and finished, the next two days my quads were so sore that it made squats that day obsolete. The only time I rememebr feeling leg muscle pain from running was way back when I first watched Hicham's world record mile. _________________ My favorite all time race: Hicham El Guerrouj - Prefontaine Classic Mile 2002 http://youtube.com/watch?v=4YykUTHzOL8
