I have been an avid 5-10 miler for years. Recently i have started running longer distances, like completing my first marathon and doing regular 15-20 mile distance runs on the weekend. It seems as if my left foot has swollen or grown at least a 1/2 size... Is this common amoung long distance runners?

Let's first think of it scientifically. Did your foot hurt when you ran? Does your foot bother you? Is it painful, or red? Are you allergic to anything in particular? If none of these, or anything similar to these apply, then it must purely be just a coincidence. Normally, you could have bone growths on your foot which are removed by surgery...but they are extremely painful. I doubt you have anything wrong going on.

Thank you for the reply on this. No pain, no injury, it's just weird. But I literally had to order a bigger size shoe in all of my shoes. All of my running shoes are now too small.....

It's not inconceivable that better blood flow (more aerobic work from the longer distances) is making your foot feel slightly larger, but just one foot seems odd. More likely, you've just become more aware of a fitment issue that was there all along. The more mileage you put in, the more noticeable small things like that tend to become.

Some stores will allow you to split pairs if you wear a different size for each foot.

When you run, do you tighten your shoes too much? I am asking this because I too have a tendecny of tightening my shoelaces too much when I sprint. Are the shoes too small for you? It could also be a restriction of blood flow.
