Here’s my injury update:
After seeing a physical therapist for about 2 weeks I showed a little improvement, but not enough to start running again. Wednesday I saw a sports therapist. He highlighted some problems in my foot and prescribed a semi-custom orthodic. Here are the problems in my foot and leg:
~ the joints where my big toe meets the foot and where the pinky toe meets the foot are collapsed. This happened because the joints in my foot are very flexible
~I have instability in my hips. I was able to avoid most problems in my left side because I somehow compensated by moving my trunk to the left.
~I have weak glutes. Yes, that means butt. Apparently a strange thing for runners according to my athletic trainer.
Some questions:
Should I consider going back to my old model of shoes?
Should I get semi-custom or full custom orthodics?
How can I strengthen the glutes? _________________ Je suis rapide! |

I would definitely recommend custom orthotics. I'm skeptical that anything semi-custom will be sufficient to meet your needs. I don't have an opinion about the shoes... As for glute exercises, do things like lunges, squats, reverse leg press (hamstring extensions), etc. That or get an e-stim kit and strap some electrodes to your butt while you watch TV.

I'm big on the reverse leg press. Also consider straight legged deadlifts with a barbell. A superior exercise that ties glutes, hamstrings, and lower back altogether. _________________ Paul
