In general, I'd say the better the road race, the less it costs. The big ones have so much sponsorship, they barely even have to charge an entry fee.

I don't even think I remember when I paid that much except for the NYRRR track races they are $5

Yes I am and have been for many years but the track races are pretty cheap for non mombers as well - the fees areent terrible if you know in advance what you want to run they kill you with the last minute stuff though...
