Quote: | what about the 1500 for the women since the 100H is out? |
I would think the 1500/mile is a pretty safe bet.
Quote: | With regards to Madrid - does it mess things up that they did not have a 100M (as far as I can tell) last year and possibly not this year... |
Yes, but not any moreso than any non-GL meet is guaranteed to mess something up...
Rieti and Lausanne look good for adding the 400's and a women's 1500. DN Galan not quite as good... That would give us:
Meeting Gaz de France, Paris Friday, 1 July (GL)
Lausanne Athletissima, 5 July (Super Grand Prix)
Golden Gala Rome Friday, 8 July (GL)
Bislett Games Oslo Friday, 29 July (GL)
World Champs, Helsinki, 6-14 August
Weltklasse Zürich Friday, 19 August (GL)
Memorial Van Damme Brussels Friday, 26 August (GL)
Rieti 28 August (Grand Prix)
Istaf Berlin Sunday, 4 September (GL)
World Athletics Final, Monaco, Sunday, 9-10 September
Men
100m
400m or 110h (???) ... both non-GL
800m
1500m/Mile
3000m/5000m
Women
100m
400m ... non-GL
800m
1500m/Mile ... non-GL
3000m/5000m

I like the Rieti meet for just that - seems to be more well rounded...
True I would guess thats an issue but it would seem that a meet like that would hurt the Sprinter group much more than the Mid Distance crew... the 800 and 1500 group of athletes (and by that I mean those that would pick more of those middle distance runners) seem to benefit from the schedule when a 100M is excluded. (that when there is no 200 included at all)
Jeez this makes no sense... anyway I agree with you Dan on that choice as much as I would like to have a Field event at some point - I think those distances match up best with the schedule.
One other thing... anyone notice that there seems to be a lot more than usual 3000M races... or is that just me and my lack of sleep seeing things? _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

I remembered one of the gotchas to adding in non-GL events based on their frequency of being contested in non-GL meets ... that often says nothing about their frequency in GL meets!

Dan, pls include at least one field event for each sex. Women's TJ and Men's HJ/Jav look like they will be held very regularly through the season.
These events usually have reasonable fields too - unlike 400m (for example) where only eight athletes can usually compete. And - importantly - these field athletes are specialists and will (mostly) only compete in one event (unlike distance or sprint events where athletes can swap and change the events they compete in from meet to meet, making it a bit of a lottery at times for leaguers).
Having 800, 1500/mile and 3/5000 really involves many of the same athletes at 800/1500 or 1500/5000 doubles. Pick the Kenyan can get a bit boring - especially considering many distance runners on the list will just be rabbits according to the orders of their teams. I'd rather see W400H (I'm not sure there's anything wrong with these tables at http://www.iaaf.org/newsfiles/22160.pdf) or M110H to add some variety.
The schedule looks good; longer than other years. More work for you Dan, I guess, but it's much appreciated. I would much prefer to see Madrid and Stockholm included though. This gives us a meet each in weeks 3 and 4 to maintain the regular momentum of the competition. Laussanne and Rieti (being held in weeks where there are other scheduled comps) are the meets I would replace.
Then the schedule - by week - with event schedules to date would be:

They are logical suggestions, though implementation of them this season might not be an easy task, especially if Dan's feeling unmotivated.
Is there any way others can help you out in setting up the comp, Dan?

We don't have a good scoring model for those field events, unfortunately.
It's always been 10 meets per season, but the number of events fluctuates from year to year, usually between 8 and 14.
All that's really needed is to decide for sure which events will be contested, so I can get on with processing the athlete lists appropriately...

You are giving him a headache. Instead, you should cheer him on. Come one, we 'all' want to begin.

Could we quote just relevant portions, not entire posts? This thread is sort of important for checking back on what we decided for league setup considerations, and it's much harder to do when the page is 2-3x longer because of unnecessarily quoted text. I've edited out a couple of the posts above.

Top post of this page is my best attempt so far:
Meeting Gaz de France, Paris Friday, 1 July (GL)
Lausanne Athletissima, 5 July (Super Grand Prix)
Golden Gala Rome Friday, 8 July (GL)
Bislett Games Oslo Friday, 29 July (GL)
World Champs, Helsinki, 6-14 August
Weltklasse Zürich Friday, 19 August (GL)
Memorial Van Damme Brussels Friday, 26 August (GL)
Rieti 28 August (Grand Prix)
Istaf Berlin Sunday, 4 September (GL)
World Athletics Final, Monaco, Sunday, 9-10 September
Men
100m
400m or 110h (???) ... both non-GL
800m
1500m/Mile
3000m/5000m
Women
100m
400m ... non-GL
800m
1500m/Mile ... non-GL
3000m/5000m
I'm thinking scratch the women's 1500/mile and go with only GL events on the men's side. That gives us 4 of each and only one non-GL event -- the women's 400, which should be pretty hotly contested.
Gotta decide soon, Paris is only 3 weeks away!

Hmmm ... I like the meet list ... I think that works well ... Don't have a problem dropping the women's 1500 ... But I think both the 400 and 110's are gonna be hot on the men's side ... But that's just one opinion ... _________________ Conway

I don't have a problem dropping either the men's 1500/mile or 3k/5k to open up a spot for adding in the 110h, but it's a gamble moving a non-GL event in for a GL one...

No ... Don't drop one of those ... More balanced to leave those in ... I was just looking at how hot those two non-GL events should be ... But we shouldn't add at the expense of either of the other two .... _________________ Conway
