I am running a half marathon in two weeks. So far I have been running approx 50 km per week in training, (20 k's of that made up of one weekend run).
I have no idea what I should be running in the week before the race although I have been told that I should be doing much less than my usual training. The race is on a sunday and I would like to be able to do one last 20 km run next saturday (ie one week before), and maybe then taper off.
Can you please advise me on a general game plan for the week before and also let me know if it is a good idea to run 20 k's 8 days before.

Thanks!

Hi,

Marathoning isn't exactly my cup of tea, so I don't speak from experience on this. However, there is little you can do in terms of training the week or two before a race to help you, but there is lots you can do to hurt you -- namely, not tapering and resting. It takes two to three weeks to lose conditioning, so there is no need for a long run the week of, other than from the standpoint of mental preparation.

Best of luck!

Dan
