A quote from the lyrics of the E'Town.
I will win this year. For the first time, I am going to be as pragmatic as possible, and do my research before I do pick the team. Even the cheap athletes should be able to pool--off an unlikely upset.
"[I] will overcome . . ."
To quote Man'o War partly the fed inspired (according to their interview on the 89.5 Pirate Radio Station about a year ago) songs, and partly their usual pseudo--Romantic themes. |
I guess that I will do better. After three meets, I went from just outside top 20, the 16th place, back to the 18th place out of over 120 participants.
I may not win, but I shall do my best.
Team [Robert] New Jersey may not win, but will fail with hono(u)r.

Ringer: Like a Pool Shark. Someone quite good at something who pretends not to be, often to trick people into betting against them.

Thanks for the explanation Dan.
What do you think about Yelena Zadorozhnaya (Rus) debuting in the steeple in 9:36.92 finishing a close 2nd in her Championships to qualify for the Worlds. Her personal best in other events:
1500m.......3:59.94 (2002)
3000m.......8:25.40 (2001)
5000m......14:40.47 (2001)
for the last several years she has run close to her personal best in at least one event every year and managed to challenge at the Championships. In the end Yelena manages to just miss the podium like Paula Radcliffe. I thought it was interesting to see a 28 yr old with so much potential to still improve change to a new event during a Championshp season. |

Look at that!!!!
VIPAM is a ringer just as sure as grits are groceries!!!
Who else would have known about a 28 year old Russian debuting in the steeplechase? _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Micah
stop that anyone would have known about Yelena Z. she's a regular fixture on the Grand Prix League year after year and places in the top 8 at JUST about every Outdooor World Championship and Olympics since 2000.
If she was under your coaching tutelage would you have advised changing to the steeple during Championship year? |

Micah's selection process somehow overlooked her.
Good debut, but she should be capable of running close to 9-flat, based on her open 3k PR.

The steeple is alittle more technical than just flat track races , give her time I would be surprised if that is her personal best at the end of the year. Its not often elite athletes pick up a new event and challenge the world record in their first attempt at the new event. |
