I am so knocked over after my race (muscles and mind) Surprised that there is time to reflect a bit.
What do you do if a competitor is 20m behind you? I always feel like a rabbit chased by a fox, although they ensure me they have felt as exhausted as you did.
Is it useful to speed up for 1 km to gain some more space?
I run always my race speed and don't vary it. I am scared that it could cost me more in the end. Only in the last 2 km I run faster (4:30 compared to 5:00).
Do you have any advise for me?

Peter

PS: Don't misunderstand me, I am not asking how to win. If there are 500 starters, I finish around position 400. But nevertheless I don't want to be the 410th Wink

The main thing in race strategy is to run your own race. Push yourself to your own limits and within that effort try to beat everyone you can. But don't get caught up with trying to stay ahead or pass others too early in the race. You could expend too much energy and die toward the end. A good rule of thumb would be to run within yourself until the last kilometer and then try to let no one pass you from there to the finish.

Mindset is important. Don't think about the people behind you being a threat to pass. Think about them struggling to keep up. You're in front. You're dictating things. Be in control and confidence will follow.

Sure, play all the games you want! Just make sure you've trained to be able to handle such tactics and that they don't throw you off your game as a result.
