There is a girl on my xc team that has been having a lot of pain in her quad area, but it streches from the outside right below the hip to down right above the knee, and it is just one place at a time, not all at once. It's not like a pull or anything, b/c it's just a gradual thing (maybe overuse?) and it varies in pain from day to day. does anyone have suggestions to what it could be or what needs done? |

It sounds like what is normally attributed to IT-band (illiotibial tendon - sp?) tightness, which is actually more accurately muscle tightness (I don't remember the name of the muscle). Deep massage and stretching can go a long ways toward alleviating this. You can massage your own quads pretty well with your elbows, while in a sitting position with your legs slightly bent.
