Due to the chilly weather, I might be forced to run on the indoor track. 12 laps = 1 mile, so I get really dizzy on the track and it is difficult to count laps.
I need some sort of mechanical lap counter that advances with the click of a button. Does anyone know what these things are called, and where I can get one?

I know what you are talking about but I have no idea where to get one. In this situation you may want to just run for a specific time instead of a specific distance. You can always count laps for one mile and use that time as your pace and divide into your total time to get a close approximation of the distance you travel. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

This is a perfect opportunity to use a watch with a countdown timer to do an indoor fartlek run. Or you could do some kind of ladder scheme like 1 lap fast, 1 lap slow, 2 laps fast, 1 lap slow, etc. You could work up to 6 laps fast, then progress back down. It wouldn't be hard to keep track of 6 laps, you can add all your laps up and see what kind of distance you put in. Bear in mind that this is quite a demanding workout and that you are a month away from something like this.
Plus its going to be hard to really offer advice, you are going to be coached by one of the best. This is going to be a real learning experience, and one for all of us, here, too, I hope!!  _________________ Paul

You can get watches with counters. I've yet to use it, but my watch will count up to 999. |

Various different lap counters can be had in the t&f catalogs, but they ain't cheap.
Me, I wouldn't even worry about the distance unless it's a specific workout. Just run for time and figure what your pace is on average.
