Finished up my season with 2 races in December, the annual HO, HO on the 7th, and the Red Nosed Deer Run on the 14th.
The HO HO was 5K. Finished in 22:01. Last year, this was my very first ever race. It was a very wet, cold day, this time around.
The Red Nosed Run went very well. I actually tapered for this race. Originally, I planned on the 5K, but halfway through the week, I made the decision to run the 8K instead. My reasoning was that I had probably already peaked for the year with the 20:12 in October.
It was not as flat as I expected. We climbed for about 2 miles to a turnaround point. The next 2 miles was a combination of downhill and flat until another turnaround point, and then back to the Start/Finish. My goal was to hit the middle 2 mile stretch as hard as possible without bonking for the final mile. It didn't quite go like that. There was a group of 5 runners in front of me that I thought I was going to have to let go, but I managed to stay within reasonable contact with them, and knowing the downtown area like I do, with 4 blocks left I expended everything I had and passed them all before the finish.
I clocked my time at 33:49 and figured my chip time would actually be a couple of seconds faster. But the results posted the next day had my chip time at 34:37. I talked to another woman after the race who told me her time was 31:46. Her chip time was 32:30. She was 4th overall, for women, by the way. So I believe there was a real problem with the timing getting started before the race started. I found out later there was a problem with the start. The 5K race that started a few minutes after ours, went much smoother. The 33:49 put me well under 7:00 per mile, this time for 5 miles (8K). It was a great way to end the season. Oh, and I actually won my age division, something I didn't find out until the next day. Totally unexpected.
Eleven Sundays, ten races, two open dates, one day with two races on it. I deserve some time off. Unfortunately, I hurt my right foot on an easy training run two and a half weeks ago. Was afraid it was a stress fracture of the second metatarsal, but the MRI was negative. It will be a month and a half before I can get back into it, I'm afraid, which puts a real damper on my plans for my next race: Shamrock 15K in March.

Wow, that 6:48 per mile is really impressive! Congrats on the great race.

Do you plan to do any pool training while you're waiting for your foot to heal?

Very cold and hard rain, too. Thanks! I don't really have a place to go to do any water training. If 24 Hr Fitness puts in a pool at my gym, I may give those winged walkers in the "Zero Impact Fitness Training" thread more of a serious look at.

Good luck this weekend, Will.
