OK folks ... In case you haven't noticed the World INdoors are just around the bend so to speak ... Lots of intreaguing matchups ... And so far no discussion ...
So .... Men's 60 ... I would say a 3 way battle among Gatlin, Gardener, and Trammell ... I thought Trammell would drop an event but so far no go ... Should have becasue I see him repeating what happened in US nationals - no gold .. I give Gatlin the edge here with GArdener running second ...
Men's 200 - I say Capel in a walk ... Devonish and Crawford fighting for the silver ...
Men's 400 - EVen though he is inexperienced indoors I say Washington is now the man to beat indoors and outdoos in the 400 ... No one else has his clear talent and as long as he is healthy he will be tough to beat ...
Men's 800 - Kipketer ... Haven't seen the main players step up indoors to really make me think anyone else can win ...
Men's hurdles - Maybe the most exciting event of the meet ... Johnson and Jackson and Trammell .... Trammell should be best but trying to do too much ... Johnson showed renewed vigor at nationals so I give the nod to him ... Theis race too short for Garcia who I am tabbing as early outdoor favorite ...
Women's events - P-Blcok the 60 ... The 200, who cares ... Same for the 400 .... Just nothing outstanding happening in either race ... 800 could be interesting, I am waiting to see final entries ... Regina Jacobs for double gold ??? Nah ... How about the 1500 though ... And of course Devers will cruise the hurdles ... But now for the pole vault ... Best event on teh women's side ... Should be a new WR ... Feofanova and Dragila should really go at it ... I say 15'10"/4.83 ... _________________ Conway

I'm afraid I don't have much to add to that... All your picks look quite sound.

Daniel Caines will start the 400m as favourite, he has home-town advantage and the fastest times this year. Watch also for the Aussie Daniel Batman, who was very impresisve running 45.90 in Birmingham in only his 2nd race indoors.
I don't think Block is running, which leaves the women's 60m open (not that she's dominated this year anyway).
This will be Colin Jackson's last meet before retiring so ALL track fans should be rooting for him, one of the true greats of the modern era for his consistency, level of performance and above all his unfailing charm and pleasant nature.
The UK is also looking for a triple jump double with Ashia Hansen and Jonathan Edwards. We also have sneaky hopes for Jo Fenn, who ran 1:59.75 in the UK champs 800m, consisting of 4 x 30 sec laps, frontrunning to an 8 second win. It was very impressive, even if effectively a time-trial.
Mark Lewis-Francis is also one to watch. Although he looks well off the pace of G,G and T, he is a big-race competitor and a Birmingham boy. He has been targeting this champs since his medal as a junior last time out, when he ran 6.51, and was really fired up after beating Dwain Chambers in a nervous UK champs race (neither really ran well).

Justin, long time no chat ... I too like the Brits chances at several medals ... MLF will have his hands full but you know I think he is part of the future of the sprints ... I rate him at the head of the group trying to break through to a medal ... I had forgotten about his 6.51 last year ... That kind of intensity will put him on the medal stand should anyone falter at all ...
Jackson will have much to run for ... We will see if this is his last championships ... He just always has a little left ... And I know he loves the sport .... His times haven't been quite as good as Trammell and Johnson but he does rise to the occasion ...
Caines has been a favorite before ... Just seems to lack the intensity ... Washington on the other hand has intensity in loads ... I still have to rate Tyree the favorite ... But I can tell you that the first lap break will be all important ... Tyree has 20.09 speed and indoors speed is king ....
Hansen and Edwards will take double gold in my opinon ... Both are as solid as they come ...
I thought Block was running ... I know Arron has pulled out ... But Block is clearly ahead on the clock ... If she doesn't run it is a crap shoot ... _________________ Conway

I haven't seen the past few meets ... Is Tyree's fitness returning? He looked like he had a lot of rust to chip off at Millrose, but the 400m is so weak right now, it may not matter.

Washington vs Caines is a very interesting race. I have no doubt Tyree is the better outdoor runner, a potential sub 44 man where I see Caines as having 44.5 potential.
But Caines is an indoor specialist. He does have raw speed - he has an indoor 200m best of 20.60, which is world class, and he tends to go through the first 200m in an indoor 400m race in around 21.3. It is his very speed which is his trump card indoors - and he is the defending champ, running at home, with a season best half a second better than Tyree.
This is absolutely Jackson's last meet. He has made a very big deal about it. In the past he has prevaricated, talked about maybe retiring, then found more motivation, much like Jonathan Edwards. But this time he has been certain. He wanted a reason to go through another winter of training and the indoor WC at home was that reason. I really don't think he's crying wolf!
Block isn't ahead on the 2003 clock - she has two 7.09s while Muriel Hurtis and Veronica Campbell have also run 7.09 and Russia's Mariya Bolikova 7.11. It's very open even if Block does run.

I'm looking forward to the battle between Dragila and Feodorova.
Isn't Teeter entered? Hope to see a win there.
Hoping to see Johnson win the hurdles but at least medal. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

The men's 200m looks a very interesting race too. Capel looks a strong favourite. Behind him, Frankie Fredericks has run 20.45, Joseph Batangon of Cameroon 20.47, Devonish 20.51, Leslie Djone of France 20.51 and Crawford 20.55 - very tight. Allyn Condon, who won the UK trials in 20.69, will be there to pick up the pieces if anyone falters.
I think Borzakhovskiy has opted out of the champs yet again so Kipketer looks too strong for the rest. The men's 1500m looks very open.
It's wall-to-wall coverage on TV here this weekend so I'll try to post some news and observations as things happen.

That is very tight for 2nd through 6th in the 200. Is it a 4 lane track?
Any word on why Borzo isn't running?
I certainly look forward to your play by play, as I most likely won't be able to watch any of it myself.

Justin its times like these that make me wish I were a Brit ... I think there will be delayed coverage here next weekend ... But that is about it ...
At low 46 I would say Tyree is fit ... But 20.6 indoors is good enough to fight for the break ... Could be an interesting first 200 meters !!!! I like Tyree's heart though ...
I was hoping to see Frankie and Capel go at it but I believe Frankie has pulled out due to the impending birth of his first child ... So I have to rate Capel the clear favorite ... Of course I gave him that same title heading into the 2000 Games ... So you never know ... Justin how did the Brits look at their championships ???? I know what the times were but how did the race unfold ???
And I have no idea on Borzo ... But he makes decisions for weird reasons sometimes so there is no telling ... _________________ Conway

That could be a very good 1500m matchup, assuming of course everyone shows up and they decide to make it a race...
One thing about Fredericks at this stage is he seems to fade with multiple races close together, such as the outdoor circuit or championship meets (rounds). I'm not sure he has enough left to give it his best shot at the right time. In one-off races, he's still as good as anyone out there, though.
