Will a woman ever beat a man at a world class endurance event?

Go to www.ultramarathonworld.com and hit the link to women catching men and see what you think.

Personally I don't think it will happen. What say the rest of you?

The theory has been floated for years that there is some aerobic point where women should surpass men, but I just don't see it. Too theoretical in nature and strongly countered by endless real-world data.

On this point I tend to agree with Dan and MW. Men have larger hearts, lungs, narrower hips, and less body fat. The only one of these factors that could potentially hurt men is the body fat. However for the race to be long and slow enough for a women to possibly make up the other factors then it's slow enough for a person to eat and drink enough to over come having smaller fat stores.

___What they actually say is that women have a good chance to beat men in races over 50 km ( or roughly 30 miles).
___They may be right. However, I still tend to agree with Dan and WM because all you need is just a look at the iron men competition.

Even in the ultramarathon community Ann Trason has been the only female to run with the best men in trail events. But on the roads at the world 100K championships even Ann couldn't stay with the world class men. So we will continue to see the occasional woman win an ultramarathon but in the end when you line up the best men with the best women the men will win.

I believe a woman if she tries hard and challenges herself to do it she can. Wink She can only do if she really wants it though Cool
