Hmm, that's a new spin on the Air Ball we came up with in the original Air list ... the custom shoe for Chris Dudley.

The Nike Air Ball's HHhhMMmmm
All time candidates.
Pre
Reason: "someone may beat me, but they'll have to bleed to do it", winning NCAA's with stitches in his foot.
Zatopek
Reason: Only person ever to win the triple. The 5k, 10k and Marathon in the same Olympics.
But the shoe goes to...
Jesse Owens.
Reason: Set something like 7 world records in 90 minutes or something along those lines. And he goes to Germany and makes Hilter's master race look like a bunch of masters racers. (Pun intended)
Present Day
Geb
Reason: The greatest distance runner of our age. Maybe ever, the times speak for themselves. 5k 12:39, 10k 26:22, Marathon 2:06:35
Mo
Reason: Has reamind the dominant force in track's premeire event for the last several years. Tied the record for the fastest 100m ever by a human being. And the other guy was a cheater.
But the shoe goes to...
Khalid Khannouchi
Reason: He has over come hype, expectation, and disappointment to prove that he's the best at his event. And he did it in what will be remebered as one of the greatest marathons of all time. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Heck no.
Female candidates for the air balls
Marion.
Reason: Even though she didn't quite do it you have to have a pair of brass ones to predict five olympic gold medals and then almost pull it off.
The UNK women's cross country team
Reason: Just come to one of our practices and you'll see why. (I know this probably doesn't deserve to be on the list but hey I'm proud of my ladies and I'm the one making the list )
Marla Ruyun
Reason: It's one thing to be legally blind and be a distance runner. It's another all together to have the courage to become a world class distance runner after spending your track career as a multi-event athlete.
And the shoe contract goes to.....
Gail Devers
Reason: Her booty aside. This woman almost had to have her feet amputated. And suffered what to me was probably the most heart breaking loss in Olympic track and field history when she tripped over the last hurdle. She still owns a pair of Olympic 100meter gold medals and a slew of world championships in the hurdles. And to top it all off if she is still running this well a year from now she'll have to be the favorite to win the 100 hurdles in 04. Her fourth Olympics!!! _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Excellent choices.
I'll nominate Ann Trason for winning the Comrades Marathon (56 miles) and the Western States 100 within 3 weeks of each other while running on a torn hamstring. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Seeing as how this thread needs one more post to hit triple digits, I might as well post here instead of starting a new one...
Today's Runner's World online has an article from T&F television commentator Larry Rawson. I like that he is positive about where we are at and the prospect for even better times ahead, but it sounds to me like someone fed him some numbers and told him to go put a positive spin on it. Why only percentages and no raw numbers? Could it be because the actual viewership levels would not look so good and percentage increases are easy to come by when starting from the bottom of the barrel? Nah.
