With the exception of US championships and Olympic trials I think that the Pre Classic is without question the best international level track meet held in the US.

Probably true, but with two disclaimers:

1) That's largely because every other big meet has died off. Sad

2) It was as recent as '95 that Pre was not all that big of a meet. A good draw in most of the fields, but nowhere near the depth and international presence it has now. It was also small enough then that it had an open (non-qualifying) day meet. Coincidentally, it was at that day meet that I met the Prefontaine family, who actually introduced themselves to me.

Sadly I have to agree with Dan ... It is unfortunate that the meet has grown in stature due to the lack of available opportunitiets here in the states ... Evil or Very Mad ...

None the less it has become the premier competition outside of major championship meets ... I will be glued here to the computer checking results during ithe meet ... And to the TV later watching what I already know ... Any thoughts by anyone as to impending results ??? Montgomery claims the record is falling today ... And for aour distance bretheren the 5000 should be awesome ..

The weather seems pretty calm today, but don't be surprised by sprint records being negated by winds. Oregon rarely has legal winds...

Yes .. I've been there several times and there is almost always a wind of some sort ... Good track for the 200 though as the winds tend to be cross winds .. Truns a little tight but the wind makes up for it ... If the tempurature is nice that could be good for the 5000 ... Wonder if the wind is going to help or hinder the pole vault ... Good fields and a nice training wind could lead to some records ...

The 200 definitely gets some nice tailwinds, usually for 150m or more of it. The temperature seems pretty favorable to the full range of events, although it feels a bit on the humid side here in Salem (pretty much the same as Eugene weather-wise).
