Hi all, i did my 5k race tonight in 18:33, 9 seconds down on the 5k i did 2 weeks ago but im still pretty pleased with my run tonight as from 10 mins before the race up until the last 1k it was pooring down with very heavy rain, i got absolutely drenched. Shame it rained i wonder what time i could of done if the conditions were better, oh well i have another 5k race next week, hopefully i can break 18mins then.

Any time you can improve steadily over several races, that's something to be thankful for. Improvement tends to come in peaks and valleys... Keep on keepin' on! Thumbs Up

Great effort, especially considering the conditions. Those kinds of conditions cause tightness, lack of flexibility, elasticity is down, traction is down. So even if you were able to maintain the same cadence, your time per lap could be slower by 2.5-3 secs. This would put you pretty close to the 18 flat territory and definitely in recent PR range.

Just like the others said, any time you can bring your times down it is a good race. Are these track races? Road races?

It's nice to have a series of races that concentrates on one distance. Sounds like after this next race, you'll be able to take a break from the intensity and bump up your weekly mileage a bit. The "Frostbite League" , I like that Laughing

Hey all, here is my training for the past week, its a pretty easy week due to the fact i had a race on wednesday and have another one this coming wednesday, although i had hoped to run this weekend but went out on friday night and havnt felt to good this weekend.

Monday: 4 miles slow
Tuesday: Rest
Wednesday: 5K Race 18.33
Thursday: Rest
Friday: 6 miles steady
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: Rest

Weekly Mileage: 14

As you can see a easy week and will probably be the same next week, but after that i want to get down to some serious training.

Rain can slow you down a lot.

___Are you not running at the highest effort too much?

Shaun, How do the courses compare that you have been racing on? It is hard to compare times if the courses are significantly different. A slightly slower time on a hilly course could be a superior effort to a faster time on a flat course.

The courses have been pretty similar, mostly flat its only the conditions that have varied and also the fact i wasnt to well anyway on the last race.
